Review by PHATTSKIS

PHATTSKIS Great night for all in attendance and those watching on the webcast. Was getting texts from all around the country from my phriends doing Couch Tour saying how great the jamming was: I have to agree. First set reminded me of something straight out of a small theater in 1993 or 1994 with Cities, BOTT, and WMGGW thrown in for good measure. The only thing missing was a good old fashioned BIG BALL JAM!! We felt Cities early in the afternoon and were treated with a great version. Down with Disease was a total highlight for me as it was short, yet still intense! The Wedge has long been a favorite to hear live and had me bouncing for sure. Julius came on and surprised me as I looked at my watch thinking it was going to be a short first set but looked over at my buddy and said I feel a Cavern as it was winding down and was not let down on the call. A great rocking version of Cavern preceded the surprise of the night in While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Great version of this Beatles classic although in my opinion, Trey took a few bars to kick his guitar solo into gear.

Second set found me much closer to the stage as I surprisingly ran into a long time friend who was a Widespread Panic fan who's wife had finally brought him to his first PHiSH show. He always liked the music but was now in a sweet spot to really and FINALLY get hit with a great PHiSH PHRY. I was glad to slide in next to them and jam for the amazing second set.

Kuroda really has done a number on the new light rig/show and I was glad to be checking it out up closer for the second set after being out in the bleachers for the first set. Things really opened up with a rocking jammed out surprise combo of RnR>Lizards. I did not hear the Live and Let Die teases but it was crowded up front and several times during the opening tune Rock and Roll I had some interruption from someone returning to their seat just down the row. Side note: set breaks do not seem as long as they used to! I had been saying Lizards for first set earlier in the day and was surprised to hear that come after a great Rock n Roll jam. Halley's segued into Sand (like the Cincy show earlier this summer) and then Twist and Birds progressed out of each other giving us a NICE JAMMED OUT 4 song segue. I dig that kind of PHiSH!! Boogie on was well played and had us all boogying to its heady jamming before 2001 came into being. Even though it is a different arrangement from the traditional symphonic version, I always think of the movie and its "Pan American" Space Shuttle and station scenes before Dr Floyd actually goes to see the Monolith. Of course, Chris' light show and the boys' jamming help with that! A kid who was asking me song titles during the first set had mentioned it was his first show and had hoped they played Waste because that was his favorite PHiSH tune. I remember thinking "wow, this kid appreciates Waste over some other rocker?" I personally love the song but was surprised to have a 21 year old PHiSH newb say Waste was his favorite song. I never saw him during the second set but was positive he was pleased as Waste started after 2001. Slave was a great straight forward version with power and familiar structure and a solid closer to a solid show. GxBx was a fantastic encore and reminded me of how the first set had taken me back to the days of my youth when I first started seeing this band.

bouncin7 8/24/12 ON HIS WAY TO SEE THE KING WILSON ~ Set II comments:
Beginning to think of Leg 2 Summer 2012 as "The Rock N' Roll Tour" with the stunning 25-minute version on 8/15 and then this joyous 16-minute version from 8/24! While it doesn't burn at both ends like 8/15, this Alabama Rock n' Roll visits similar psychedelic hallways complete with Live And Let Die theme. Towards the end, Trey's wah wah focus allows that welcomed Page interplay with Mike. Super soup. Page turning up my mind. Mike melting it. The segway into Lizards spot on. Never appreciated Page's virtuosity more. Seeing him work it up close on the Webcasts brings new meaning to my understanding of Page's Side. Is there another keyboardist on Earth creating these sounds on tour? Hah yah right! Standard Halley's Comet and then Trey taking it wah wah way out during SAND. :) Great version highlighted by some psychedlia again while transitioning into TWIST-OYE-COMO.....Trey paying tribute to his R&R heros all night Lou Reed, McCartney, Carlos then Stevie Wonder BOOGIE ON PHUNKNESS > transition to 2001 sending blood to every part of gills ! Sweet! Come WASTE some time with this second set of balls out Rock N Roll!!!! As always, thank you, PHISH!

Review by GAMEHENDGEPHONICS

GAMEHENDGEPHONICS I thought meatball's comment was pretty damn funny. Lighten up people!

Listened to the stream....Gotta love putting disease in the middle of the 1st set. I love it every 2nd set opener I've heard, but it's great when they change it's slot, like they did tonight. 1st set on this show really was pretty damn sweet.

2nd set was ( o Y o )'s. Great flow, N I envy anyone who witnessed that killer lizards...the song at the top of my chase list. While the jams may not have gotten too far out there, this second set was the cat's meow. I enjoyed it through & through.....except one thing...I was for certain halley's was gonna bring out the jaaaammmmmz..but unfortunately, once again..it didn't.

Great show.

Review by Abe_Froman

Abe_Froman First set, eh, nothing crazy, I did enjoy While My Guitar Gently Weeps to close.

This second set is excellent, great flow and energy. Really nice Rock and Roll to open the set, mostly led by Mike, Page and Fish, with Trey doing some rhythm guitar. After that, just high energy tunes that flowed together, capped by a gorgeous Slave to the Traffic Light. I'll take a Good Times Bad Times encore, no problem!

Give that second set a listen, good stuff.

Review by spanishmoon

spanishmoon This Rock and Roll into The Lizards is fantastic. Definitely One of the Highlights of the summer, there are so many from this summer. I'm trying to submit or at least get this tease recognized. During R&R from 14:45-14:55, Mike teases Twenty Years Later. It's as clear as day. This is a great show, I highly recommend it, the R&R>The Lizards alone is enough reason to DL this show

Review by cjfphan21

cjfphan21 This was a solid show from top to bottom. I was actually standing next to a guy who called Lizards about 2 seconds before Trey started playing the opening line, so kudos again if you read this! I felt the 2001 > Waste > Slave sequence was an excellent way to end the second set and was capped off nicely by a raging GTBT.

Review by CCurley2416

CCurley2416 I have been wanting to see phish for about 3 years now and man were they AWESOME!!! I went to this show for my phirst and then in atlanta, and this show was much much more personal. Idk if it was the way the venue was set up, instead of going outward, it just went straight up basically. I wasn't lucky enough to win pit tickets but I was in the section behind that, second row. The crowd was terrific, LOTTSSSS of widespread fans there. I sat behind a 50 year old guy who ate a bunch of mushrooms and booty danced the whole time, it was great, really made my trip lol. I hope they go back to Alabama on their next tour for their 30th.

It's hard to recommend certain songs, the whole show was really terrific. I think my favorites were the Boogie On Reggae Woman, Mike was doing some phunky phunky stuff. The Timber was awesome, and Rock and Roll. Although, like I said: the whole show was really really great. I totally called Possum as the opener the day their second leg schedule came out and I saw AL on there haha

Review by phishm0610

phishm0610 I would love to go deep with this review, but there is absolutely nothing I can type that describes what Phish is playing right now. It's a feeling in the air that transcends time and space. They can push it at you at will and are able to euphorically bring an entire room into a puddle of goo. What a glow you all must have leaving this show. My kids felt it hard in the 1st set and watched cartoons during the 2nd. Spooky good. I love me some Phish right now. And I can feel all too well the love they are describing with sound and raw human energy in their music. Who wants to diss the webcast now?
