MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 98

Welcome to the 98th installment of Mystery Jam Monday at Phish.net. As usual, we will be playing for an MP3 download, courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. The rules haven't changed: you need to correctly identify the song and the date to win. Post your guess in the comments. One guess per person per day (with the second “day” starting after I post the hint). A hint will be posted on Tuesday (if necessary) and the answer will be posted on Wednesday. Good luck...

Wednesday Answer: Congrats to maddyb4me on his first MJ win, correctly guessing the 7/20/98 "Halley's." Few jams pack such a punch in barely 10 minutes. The Blog will return on Monday with its 99th Mystery Jam...

uctweezer Sounds like a '98 Tube... I don't think it's Phoenix... checking back now.

spencur6 My money is on a tube circa 97/98. If I am wrong it is probably a funk era tweezer. I know I have heard this jam before.

uctweezer Ah shit it's not Tube... wrong key. Closing in on it...

Nice work. I was cycling through 98 Halley's on a made quest. Guess I was a little too late.

maddyb4me I haven't heard this jam since I lost my 1st generation Maxell XLII cassette 12 years ago- but it was just as amazing now, as it was then. I love the Phish from Vermont!!! I'd like to thank Rabeldy for making this possible....
, comment by Thunder
Thunder I had this pegged as a 98 Tube jam (as well) but the lack of loop was what had me unable to place. Pretty sure it's 7/20/98 ventura halley's, good one @maddyb4me!

, comment by uctweezer
uctweezer We honed in on that one pretty quickly! I was thinking Tube from the next night, thesloth23 was thinking Wolfman's from the next night too, and WayIFeel was thinking Ghost from the previous night. Nice call maddyb4me.

uctweezer I was listening to the 11/11/98 Halley's when the correct answer was posted-- holy shit is that jam sick as well! The SBD recording was aired in From the Archives-- check it out!

Mikesgroover Makes it all the sadder to remember what Halley's jams used to be like and what they are in 3.0.

Congrats man on the win and LOL on making it possible...just thank the blog though, as they are the ones doing this weekly for all of us, not me.
This jam sticks out in my memory very well though as one of the 1st Halley jams after the Hampton ride the fall before. This west coast 98 run was one of my favorite ever and this Halley's was definetly a part of it. This whole show rocked in my book from the gin opener to the SOAM and the Drowned + Sea and Sand giving props to the venue + location. This Halley's is even noted in the notes for the show I think here on .net as "disco-style" jamming or something. Very hot.

, comment by maddyb4me
maddyb4me No doubt Rabeldy, the blog is surely to thank- but I appreciate your generosity in allowing others to have a chance. And I agree, this jam sticks out in my head as well- Disco funk from four white dudes never sounded so sweet!
