This show was part of the "1993 Winter/Spring Tour."
Chalk Dust rocks right out of the gate with furry. Guelah was good, but lost a little flair after the Fly. Sparkle was good, but almost fell off. Melt and Esther sounded average to me tonight, but still good. Llama rocked as usual. Sample gets better and more controlled each time they play it. Rift still had off timing issues. Hood was kind of rusty and unsure sounding. Cavern rocked the closer spot and was a little off at the end.
Axilla rocks for a second set opener, but sounded weak at the end. Curtain was average for this time period. Maze was good. During Lizards you can hear a lot of balloon popping going on and it seems to distract the band and the ending solo suffered. Mike's was also a bit sloppy and disjointed in the jam. They're getting really close to that Simple lick. Hydrogen had some weak spots as usual. Weekapaug was disastrous at times and it sounds like Trey broke a string and Page does what he can to cover. This was a great time to pick up the acoustic for the Horse. Trey blows the end again. Silent is a little off with Page's timing vocally, but rocks by the end. Trey rushes into Pen, which was average for this tour. Then the Balls come out... Then HYHU brings Fish out for a spirited version of Bike with band introductions and the usual vac solo. Their truck driver Terry gets the shout out for the Highway to Hell closer. It was sloppy, but still rocking to end an average second set.
So by request we have a huge bust-out with Gumbo!!! It is rusty as advertised by Trey beforehand, but had a funny Free Bird style ending on it. Then everyone gets shushed for Grace.
Not too bad overall, but just no real wow factor for me tonight, except for the Gumbo bust-out. That bumps this one up a bit to four stars for me.
