Trey sang the verses of Fee through a megaphone. I Didn’t Know featured a Madonna washboard solo from Fish. All Things Reconsidered was introduced by Trey as “the variation on NPR’s All Things Considered theme” and featured Simpsons, Random Note and Aw Fuck! signals. Sweet Adeline and Carolina were performed without microphones. YEM included an Odd Couple theme tease and an extended jam segment of duets, first Trey and Fish, then Page and Mike. Fish introduced Mike as "The Man in Black" after I Walk the Line. The Wedge from the soundcheck incorporated elements of I Want You (She's So Heavy).

Blastoplast While the previous review paints a picture of this show as fairly regular, out of tune, but decent as a whole...but not much more...and I generally agree...I would still suggest checking some things out.

Fishman did a stage dive at this show after all! All out stage dive! He came up from the audience with a ripped dress that he fixed with duct tape. That's what Fishman was talking about after Love You with his dress in it's final days. It was awesome! Good fun!

...and the pineapple thing was funny. That was just some random people in the audience who began to make their way to the front of the relatively small theater with their dancing pineapples, and they gave them to Fishman when he came out for his tune. Fun stage banter and lots of goofing around. I love that stuff!

But...back to the music...this was my first show...and I was so naive about so many things, but it was still enough to forever change my outlook on music.

While this was my first show and holds some special memories for me as a result, I am not so deluded that I can't recognize this for what it is. It's kind of standard, but I would argue it's standard in an era of Phish that was ridiculously tight, humorous, silly, rockin'!, and generally full of exuberance. So, in that context, it's just good music. Worth listening to just as a good recording of Phish on a random night in Michigan in 1992. Everything is solid, everything is mostly regular.

So...check Reba...it's just another good version of a great song.

Think of it like a jazz tune...you can listen to Sonny Rollins play the same tune ten times, and generally it would be similar, in a way...but the details...the mood...the phrases...that's what defines the good and bad solo on any given tune. This is simply a good Reba. An excellent Reba! Probably not number one on anybody's list, but check it out. Good music to listen to. After all, you can't only listen to your favorite Reba.

Also the Tweezer...again standard...but it has that thing in it that makes it worth checking out. Good jam...tight...focused...and then ends. Nice!

YEM...good. Unique enough in ways that it is also worth checking out.

Gordon has fun with 'I Walk the Line.'

So...again...standard...regular in many ways...but so beautiful in many others. It's Phish in 1992, a year I consider a building block...or better yet, a foundation...upon which the following years could rely on as the improvisations became more and more experimental.

DollarBill First time at the State Theater, eighteenth show of fall tour. Pretty good recording. I would love to hear the sound check as well.

Golgi goes back to the opener spot tonight. Good performance, nothing too crazy. Followed by a decent Llama, again, good but, not great. Foam was ok, with some monitor tweaking going on. Sounds like Fish is teasing Stash on the drums. Fee has weak parts from Mike. Poor Heart was good as was Melt. Fishman is on fire tonight. Great drumming. More monitor feedback though. IDK makes its first appearance in December. Tonight features "Tubbs" on the washboard. I believe this is only the second washboard solo I've heard at this point. ATR has a long intro with secret language. This is the first time I've ever heard that in ATR. Again, great drumming by Fish during Trey's antics. Reba was pretty good, maybe a few spots here and there. Adeline was it's normal self. Cavern is a good closer to an ok first set.

Second set starts off with Trey giving Page a hard time about tuning his piano. Rift is not very tight tonight. Tweezer is also disjointed at times and just doesn't make much of an impact for me. Sounds like they are teasing some other song which may account for the off sound. Tela was ok. My Sweet One was good and included the Big Ball Jam. The last note vocally was terrible. Maze was good, although it sounds like Trey pulled himself out of tune because Glide was terrible. I'm mean really awful. YEM wasn't much better. I mean the playing was good, it's just out of tune, making everyone else sound timid and unsure. The vocal jam was funny, featuring a call out to Chris repeatedly. Right into HYHU, Fish thanks some girl for the pineapples? Love You has the usual band intros and a reggae section. Walk the Line was ok as Mike struggles through the vocal modulations. Oh Kee Pa also makes its December debut and was very rough. Suzy was equally sloppy and included more monitor feedback and tuning problems. Kind of a forgettable second set.

The encores were missing from two different sources I checked. Looks to be standard fare for this tour.

First set beats the second tonight. Great drumming from Fishman, and great vacuuming I guess.
