The 10th Annual Runaway Open charity golf tournament was held April 27th at DeBell Golf Club in Burbank, as a fundraiser for Pasedena Rosebud Academy, which burned down in the Eaton Fire last January. We had a field of 39 this outing, and the results are finally ready! Top prize details are above the fold; click "read more" for full details, including this event's first hole-in-one, this year's lyrics riddle, and the complete scoreboard.
The top three golfers were Jason Rubio, Stephen Whithers, and Kurt Vile, in a three-way tie for first - with honorable mention to Jeremy Sova, at 4th place but only one stroke behind. The top foursome (show below) was the Mondegreen team featuring Kurt, Seth Caswell, Joshua Kinne, and Aaron Rohr. (All 10 teams were named after Phish festivals - everything from Amy's Farm to Mondegreen, excluding Coventry, Curveball, and IT.)
No one won the $10,000 hole-in-one contest on hole #7, an opportunity made possible by the Schwartz Planning Group, and thanks to volunteer observers Esther Eaton and Beej Gefsky. However, Zack Stoff did hit a hole-in-one on hole #12, a first for a Runaway Open! (He's pictured below with DeBell tournament marshall Jon Ritner, who joined Zack's foursome to fill a cancellation.) Zack thereby won the closest-to-pin contest. The longest drive contest was won by Vick Ehrmann. (There was a rule ambiguity we'll resolve for next year, but Vick was the only entry.)
This year's lyrics riddle was solved in a close tie between Joshua Kinne and Jeremy Sova. Of the 17 sponsor signs, 15 (all but Phunky Threads and Phunk Your Face, not shown) had a date in the bottom right corner, of a show that had a single Phish debut. The initials of those songs, in hole order, spelled a Phish lyric. We deeply appreciate the amazing support of all of our sponsors, and invite you to solve the riddle if you can:
We look forward to seeing even more of you next year at the 11th annual. Meanwhile, here's the scoreboard for the 10th:
