MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 383

Welcome to the 383rd edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday, the final and most difficult of July. The winner will receive an MP3 download code courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the songs and dates of both mystery clips. The clips are connected by a theme, but the theme needn't be part of the correct answer. Each person gets one guess to start – if no one answers correctly in the first 24 hours, I'll post a hint. After the hint, everyone gets one more guess before Wednesday at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. Good luck!

Note: Special thanks to fellow MJM Emeritus @schvice for the tip on one of the clips. Also, while the theme is straightforward, I can't emphasize enough how difficult this MJM is.

Hint: “Oh, what a night” - though these jams were played on two different nights in the early ‘90s.

Answer: Congrats to @twoms on winning their first MJM, solving one of the more difficult puzzles in recent memory! This week, they used the hint and personal experience to identify the 7/24/93 "Weekapaug Groove" and 11/23/92 "Weekapaug Groove." As mentioned in the comments, the hint referred to the history of the song's lyrics, which came about in the back of a van while listening to "Oh, What a Night." The MJM will take the next couple weeks off, returning in mid-August for MJM384.

Enough to lead someone to the answer, not so much as to give it away

Do you think the hint was too easy, or too difficult?

I actually don't get the clue...I can't see the connection.

dreamingdreamsbrings Right, but then doesn't @TWOMS win?

Did someone make a .net account just to win a MJM? It's only two days old.
, comment by twoms
twoms Longtime lurker and social media skeptic, never really had a reason to post before. So...yes. Nice to meet you all!

Yes, @twoms won, as indicated on the MJM results spreadsheet, and soon to be indicated on the blog when I get the chance to update it.

dreamingdreamsbrings Sorry, had no idea about the spreadsheet and still don't know where to find it on the site (i tried looking but not too hard).

Would have been nice to know before I spent the past two days pointlessly listening to every track (that could possibly contain those clips) in "late December" (Four Seasons reference through me off) from "the early 90's".

Not all for not: I discovered that sick Tweezer form 12/31/91 and some other jems and decent sounding recordings from that era.

So, thank you. (sincere, not snarky)

(and I still feel good about finding the clips once the 'Paug theme was revealed, gives me hope for the future)

Click on the black square that says "Mystery Jam Monday Results" at the top of this page.

The MJM results spreadsheet is part of every single MJM blog post. You'll see it there each week next to the LivePhish logo.

In addition to being a busy man, some folks prefer that I not update the blog the moment that the MJM has been solved as to not give the answer away - sort of a "no spoilers" type deal for the folks who play for fun.

If you're ever unsure if it's been solved and you only want to search if you have a shot at winning - and if for some reason I haven't yet updated the spreadsheet - a massive number of thumbs-up on the correct answer is usually a dead giveaway. Note the 12 thumbs up on @twoms's winning answer, and the most thumbs up on the winning answer in most (all?) previous MJMs.

mcgrupp81 I wholeheartedly approve of ANY MJM that incorporates Fall 92. I would pay a pretty penny to catch a Phish show at Broome County if they ever played there again. As for the summer 93 show, if you check out the Pharmer's Almanac, someone mentions that Trey referenced the 7/24 and the 8/13 (Murat) as his favorite shows of the tour. Kudos to the jam pickers lately as it's nice to have a jam plucked out of a good all around show that you haven't listened to in a while.
