BEYOND THE POND PODCAST: MSG GHOSTS OF THE DEAD

Beyond the Pond is a bi-weekly podcast in which Brian Brinkman (@sufferingjuke) and David Goldstein (@daveg924) use the music of Phish as a gateway to introduce the listener to many other bands, the vast majority of which are not jambands. An episode generally begins with a deep dive into a designated portion of Phish improvisation, and then can spin off to any variety of musical themes and other acts, the overarching purpose being introducing the listener to as many new and different bands as possible.

Welcome back to the first Beyond the Pond episode of 2019. Let’s talk Holiday Run. In addition to the Phish from Vermont, it’s generally been our thing to focus on non-jambands, with the purpose of sparking listener interest in same. However, a few of the recent jams at The Garden were soooooo evocative of the Greatest Jamband of All Time, that we opted to deviate from our norm and focus a little bit on Phish jams as they relate to The Grateful Goddamn Dead. Don’t worry. We will not be replacing the wonderful, venerable Brokedown Podcast any time soon.

In addition to filling your earholes with some exquisite versions of China>Rider and The Wheel, we also talk about some forthcoming non-jammy album releases that we are very excited for in the first quarter of 2019.

We appreciate you listening, and are certain that you will learn something new over the course of just over an hour and a half. You can review and subscribe to Beyond the Pond on iTunes, or simply listen through the player below.

chipre Great work again, boys!

I was fortunate enough to be at the 10/29/13 Reading show. It's a sleeper, to say the least. And that DWD was/is special.
