History

"Simeon" is a composition birthed during an NYC songwriting collaboration of Trey and Tom Marshall in the summer of 2025 and debuted during the Trey Anastasio Band fall tour later that year along with "Real You" and "Mindless Mood." It immediately inserted itself as a beautiful encore opening ballad performed by a stripped down ensemble (Trey on acoustic guitar, Dezron Douglas on bass, Russ Lawton on drums, and Ray Paczkowski on keys with Jennifer Hartswick, Natalie Cressman, and Kenneth Whalum later blending in vocals in response to the repeated "another day is done" lyrics).

The song appears to tell of a person beckoning for others, first calling out to celestial spots, moving closer to terrestrial terrain, and then referencing the heavens again. In Tom's words upon he and Trey meeting to write the song: "Trey immediately liked these lyrics. They were a touch absurd, yet he recognized something elegant in them and wrote a beautiful song around them."
