I've been seeing Phish for a while now. I've always had Trey on a pedestal. But I never could have thought he could rise any higher with his playing. This show made me dance harder than I have ever danced at a show, and at times I simply had my hand over my mouth just shocked and completely blown away by Trey's playing. He has achieved the pinnacle of what electric guitar playing can be. He has surpassed Jerry, Jimi, and everyone else he stands on the shoulders of. He stole my face, as they say.
Let's talk about Mike too. He finally figured out that new bass guitar tone and my god it's perfect. I've been playing a lot of bass myself lately and could immediately pick out what he was trying to do with the new tone. Lots of percussive elements coming out of that new one. His synth bass tone has reached new heights too. It's just so flawlessly buttery and crunchy how it needs to be. All weekend Mike was itching to bust out Boogie On, and when he got the chance to do so WOW we all freaked out.
The energy was just something else. Sometimes when the music is so good and everyone's energy is merging, it feels like an entity has been summoned overtop the crowd and in front of the band, and the energetic spawned being is the music playing the band. I've only met this creature once or twice before and only for brief minutes. This night the creature was hovering over everyone all night. It was truly magical.
