BEYOND THE POND PODCAST: THE STORAGE JAM W/ ROB MITCHUM

Beyond the Pond is a bi-weekly podcast in which Brian Brinkman (@sufferingjuke) and David Goldstein (@daveg924) use the music of Phish as a gateway to introduce the listener to many other bands, the vast majority of which are not jambands. An episode generally begins with a deep dive into a designated portion of Phish improvisation, and then can spin off to any variety of musical themes and other acts, the overarching purpose being introducing the listener to as many new and different bands as possible.

On this episode of Beyond the Pond we’re joined by fellow Phish fanatic, indie rock scholar and one time Pitchfork writer Rob Mitchum (@phishcrit) for a wide-ranging conversation that begins with an exploration of the SuperBall ‘Storage Jam’ from July 2nd, 2011, and how it may have been key to Phish’s longevity going forward. We then let Rob take the reins for a deep dive into both past, and present Chicago-based indie-psychedelic rock bands, while introducing the listener to buckets of new music in the process. Seriously; we both learned a ridiculous amount in this episode, and anybody who has ever enjoyed this podcast in the past should cue this episode up as soon as humanly possible.

We appreciate you listening, and are certain that you will learn something new over the course of just under two hours. You can review and subscribe to Beyond the Pond on iTunes, or simply listen through the player below.

Runaway_Jay Awesome. I really dug this episode. The conversation about the after-effects of the storage jam, I always wanted it this way's sneaky influence on the band, and all of the recommendations were great.

Thanks guys!
