This is a really good show in one of my favorite months of Phish, June 1994. As you can see in the setlist, there were very few breaks taken between songs in the first set. The songs flow right into the next throughout the set. The opening sequence of Buried Alive>Poor Heart, Sample, Divided Sky is great. Wolfman's Brother has a short but sweet funky jam, which segues into the second Dinner and a Movie of 1994. An excellent Stash follows. As the jamming chart says, Trey does certainly "go off the deep end" in this one. Ginseng Sullivan is one of my favorite bluegrass songs, but this acoustic version is difficult to hear on the recordings. The fairly short first set concludes with a rocking Julius.
Mike's Song stands out in the second set opening Mike's Groove. Esther is well executed and fits well after Weekapuag. Then comes Cavern before one of the highlights of this show, Reba. The jam begins with Trey picking staccato notes while muting. Further on, Trey plays repeating riffs with slight variations, while gradually building to a shredding peak. This is a great Reba. Jesus Just Left Chicago delivers the expected blues. Scent of a Mule and Big Ball Jam are straight forward, while Terrapin features a vacuum solo. The set closing Slave is another highlight of the show, with great playing from all of the band. The Golgi Apparatus encore works for me. This is a very good show overall, as most are from this time period.
