Review by jive1twoandlee

jive1twoandlee Seattle N2, and the boys are keeping the energy high. Super fun setlist, lots of variety in the jams.

Free is extra saucy this time around, great Gordo. Gin has a pretty sweet type-1 jam, great Fish and Page. One of the darker Stashes out there; pure evil, grimey spirit in the jam. Pebbles is always welcome in a setlist, and this one is real fun, if not a little short. WotC has some great Trey material. Love the 2.0 choices.

Chalkdust jam is patient, and has a lot of reflection hidden throughout. The jam weaves seamlessly from violent, angry energy to a calm and collected mellowness. Very emotional -> Light. Groovy for sure, a heavy space groove. Awesome Mike leads -> Chalkdust reprise. Just perfect > hot, nasty ass Fuego. Early on, Trey does a fuckin crazy prolonged note that dissolves into a creepy sci-fi drone. Mike does some weird shit too near the end. Awesome, creepy, slime jam -> Monsters. Great Trey here. Piper feels very 1.0, has an awesome vibe > super joyous Number Line.

Really fun encore, the rare Sleeping Monkey appearance always brings me joy, and Myfe is seriously hazy. Some real shit here.

I don’t know if this was better than N1, but it’s certainly on par. I love the energy the guys are giving, just happy all around. Fish is the star in Seattle for sure. The setlist really works for me, and the jams all felt different and inspired. Check out the Stash, and the whole 2nd set.

Review by HarpuaTheBulldog

HarpuaTheBulldog This was another incredible show in the midst of the SEA > PDX > SF run that I was lucky enough to witness. Had a great time exploring the Seattle downtown (Pike's Place, Gum Wall, some great pizza and beer, and a lot of other little cool detours) with the Phishcord crew that I also met up with at Dicks and MSG 2024.

Got to my seat early this time. The concession prices are absolutely ridiculous at Climate Pledge so I brought in a bunch of little Fireball shooters instead. It was also Bicycle Day and so you knew Phish was gonna bring it and it was gonna be special that evening. I did indulge in the Bicycle Juice as well just a little :)

Free as an opener is always a good time - got the crowd into it. Bathtub Gin surprised me as I thought it would appear later in the set - this is a really good Gin. Clocking in at a touch over 20 minutes, it will definitely be jam-charted at some point and it departs from what you'd consider a "standard" Gin at this point and time. It also just provides more proof that things can just take off at any time in any set with they way they are playing (really ever since they came back in 4.0). I was thinking about the 11/9/1998 show with both the standout Free and Gins. Both N1 and N2 I believe each song in the first set was given extra juice. This is probably the most apparent with this version of EVOLVE. This is by far the best version of Evolve performed up until this time. It is one of the longest Evolves and really the only one I've heard with a substantial Trey solo during it. He was killing it and was animated during the Evolve and the crowd was feeding right back into it. I am a big Evolve-Head so you can take my word for it.

Stash that comes next was also a very good version - I wouldn't make any claims or rate it compared to any others, but it was very nice and did the job, I recall it getting fairly dark. Pebbles and Marbles came next and I was over the moon - it was my 21st or so show and first Pebbles & Marbles. Any time this song drops it is welcome and I thought it was a nice rendition, they were saving the gas for later in the show. The Farmhouse placement I like, maybe in early 3.0 it would have ripped out of a Down With Disease jam or something in the early third quarter but this was a delicate spot, not in the way of anything, and it was my favorite Farmhouse jam that I've seen in person - delicate, nice, and a bit extended. If you like Farmhouse it's worth seeking out. One of the things that marks 4.0 for me as well is just that Trey has gotten a lot better at song placement and selection and knowing when to drop the slower songs (song #3 of the entire MSG run, for example). Walls I always like and this was fun - we also got a Walls two years ago in Seattle and enjoyed it then as well.

Pretty sure my tab was kind of a dud at this point but I was nice and crossfaded anyway and didn't really need to go to outer space LOL. The second set is wonderful and I had such a good time during it. The Chalk -> Light -> Chalk is obviously the meat of the set, but the entire Chalk through Monsters stretch is a lovely slab of Prime Phish, and it was a blast. Light is a really good version, probably my favorite of the opening couplet. It does sound like they are teasing songs quite a bit during this run, perhaps a conscious decision. When they went back into CDT to end it, the crowd went wild (of course). Fuego -> Monsters is another bomb stretch, Fuego went hard and then a great segue into Monsters, one of my favorite new songs, this was a perfect spot for it. Piper and BDTNL were kind of exclamation points on the earlier exploration. Solid set for sure!

The encore was definitely interesting in a "weird" way - Sleeping Monkey is always sweet - I got one in the encore of my first show (10/17/14 Eugene) and then certainly an unexpected treat - MF MF next, a song that has gotten incredible treatment lately. They went dark with it real quick, and CK5 was showing off with the lights, it was very red and scary. An intriguing choice, almost like they deliberately went with it to go different - the first MFMF encore since 4/291993, which was the only other time it was in an encore, and this was the first time it closed a show. Definitely left us hooked as to what would happen next. This time after the show I stuck with my crew and we had a short sleep (some of did not sleep due to the acid) and then awoke for the next morning early to take the train down to my hometown PDX for the first hometown show in 26 years. What a run in Seattle - I hope they really enjoy this arena because I'd love to come back in 2027!

Review by Ignace

Ignace The opening night in Seattle was to my surprise a great show (usually Phish seems to need a couple of shows to get under steam), so my expectations for N2 were high. Well, it was certainly a good show but not above N1. You could say: less rockish but more partyish. Gin, Stash, CDT>Light>CDT and Piper were highlights. Evolve, Walls and Fuego less my cup-a-tea. Always glad to have BDTNL, and surprised by MFMF encore. May indicate darkish jams to come up in Portland? (I write this in tempore non suspecto 😼). Keep on surprising us, Phish. And by the way, great venue, this Climate Pledge.

Review by Jayhye

Jayhye You can guess all you want, look at past set lists, think you know Phish…..ha….here they come.
Start with a little Free to get the night rolling. Jump right into something close to a 20min Gin….and we are off. For the guy in front of me playing Phantsy Phish, he got his Stash and Suzy in the first set. Hope he got good points for those. Well played my phriends, tonight was a heater. A few times they got lost but the way they find themselves back in it amazes me. That is what listening to each other for so long does. Able to right the ship in a few hard hits from old Fishman.
Quick trip to the bathroom and restock the beer and we are off into a CDT wrap around. Complete synergy between the boys to wave through light back to CDT. A fiery fuego and we are headed towards a good ending mid way through. A shout out to my dog Piper but not ended. BDYNL, one of my favs cause my wife likes it, and this phan is happy. Was feeling possible Hood coming on but maybe too early for the tour? Even though I get to enjoy the 2 SF shows coming I feel Portlan will steal my Hood. That’s ok, let them enjoy it. We got their Blaze.
Sleeping monkey? Love the Fishman ending and then stab it with a knife and we are off into an epic closer.
Nicely done boys, see you in SF.
PS. shout out to Jimmy F on his 700th show. Monster is right !!!

Review by craving_2point0

craving_2point0 Ripping opener. I wanted a long Bathtub Gin and they delivered. Trey hit some signature notes in his earlier soloing, and the actual jam rocked. 2nd longest Evolve played had a pretty cool solo on it and good lights. In my opinion, the Stash proved how clean the band was playing their compositional instrumental pieces this week. The jam felt a little old school and maintained the kind of Latin vibe that definitely gets lost in the type 2 Stashes of today. As divisive P&M can be for fans, this version was really exceptional and it was all around a classic. Following it up with a little recess from Farmhouse. Suzy Greenberg has been underplayed recently and getting such a proper version was a treat. Closing it off with WOTC, not the strongest, but still played really well all together. The Chalkdust maybe had a few moments of uncertainty in it, but when it was rolling it felt so good. Light is always a fun one and I appreciate it coming up at a show. The Fuego was definitely a highlight of the set, with Trey hitting some crazy notes and giving that classic feedback-y solo that Fuego sometimes offers. My first Monsters started with a bit of skepticism, but they proved themselves as usual and made me like a song on my first live listen. The late game Piper caught me off guard, but it ended up being a super fun penultimate song. BDTNL can be a bit of an eye roll for people but it holds a special place in my heart, and this version felt like an appropriate way to end. Sleeping Monkey might not get enough recognition for how much of a classic it is and I think it's the ultimate piece for a two song encore. What I didn't expect to be a good encore song was My Friend. They did great on the composed part and then peaked out a fat jam to send us off to Portland. It was definitely a great surprise.

Review by backinthebubble

backinthebubble S1 with a nice Free!!! Gin too!!!!! Evolve was a beauty. Finally got Susy Greenberged!! So happy to hear this song. Pebbles and Marbles was good too! Felt like a cowboy jam 🤠.

S2 starting off loud with CDT with light then back into CDT!! I thought this was AWESOME! with light hamburgered in the middle.

Encore with Monkey and MFMF was good!

Great show overall! I personally, in contrast to what phish.net says, think that N2 was better than N1 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Felt very cohesive, the entire show as a whole.
