Review by thelot

thelot Nice Multi-Track source for this show but the circulating source has a cassette generation in it’s lineage. This source still sounds fantastic! Hopefully the masters see the light of day at some point.

Things start off with a rare Bouncin’ opener. A pretty straightforward Mike’s Groove shows up early in the show. After Groove Page mentions that the house management says that the orchestra pit isn’t to terribly supported for the wild dancers up front. A HYHU tease precedes Fish’s favorite song, Foam. Well played Fluffhead. Solid Stash. Beautiful Lizards! It sounds like from the recording that this was a rather intimate performance. Tape flip after Lizards. No music is lost. A decent Bowie closes out the first half.

A rippin’ Jim opens up set 2. It was apparently late one fall night as Trey repeats the line over and over again, almost as if he forgot the next line. He recovers and delivers a spot on version of Esther. Tweezer has an enjoyable jam segment. After Fee Trey chats about their Summer ‘88 trip out to Telluride and how that all transpired. He takes a request from Mike Lynch of the Telluride contingent. Per Mike’s request, they bust out the first Slave of the year! Nice little treat for the Aspen audience. Following HYHU, the hardest man in show business shares one of his two bear stories in place of a song. The story he tells is of a run in with a female black bear while hiking the Adirondack’s. Trey followed this up with a story of Fish’s adventures of hiking the mountains of Telluride and being super late to one of their Roma gigs (7/30/88). Erik the Viking puts in his usual request for No Dogs Allowed prior to the Chalk Dust set closer. Cool little Manteca tease at the start of the Chalk Dust jam. Before the encore Fish explains the reasoning for his tardiness that night in Telluride. Well played Lawn Boy and La Grange wrap things up.
