spreaditround SET 1: Runaway Jim: Standard.

Axilla: Trey blows lyrics, Page bails him out at first and then neither of them can remember them. Played for the first time since October 16, 1994 (170 shows). Trey’s guitar sounds horrible, a sign of more equipment issues to come throughout the show. >

All Things Reconsidered: ATR was played for the first time since July 1, 1995 (108 shows) >

Mound: Standard.

Down with Disease: Smokes. >

Prince Caspian: Standard.

Reba: Incredible, absolutely an all timer! Very, long strong build and for a bit it seems they will not peak. But peak they do, and it is glorious. Wow!!!

Golgi Apparatus: Standard.

Run Like an Antelope: Above average version.

SET 2: Also Sprach Zarathustra: Standard >

Maze: Sounds like Buried Alive around 7:05 for a few seconds. This version is a face melting, rager that is not far off of the greatness of 10.18.96 from Pittsburgh. Extremely intense.

Bouncing Around the Room: Standard >

Simple: Lots of effects and drum kit early as Page leads the way once again. Trey comes charging over the top for the last five minutes or so. Just crushes it. Awesome version!

Loving Cup: Standard. Plays a bad guitar is lol considering all the tech issues.

Mike's Song: Starts off exceptionally strong and very, very funky but gets lost in a wash of Trey on his drum kit and a plodding pace.

The Star Spangled Banner: Thanks, having a great time, we need to practice this in advance of us singing it before the upcoming Timberwolves game…

Weekapaug Groove: Strangest intro you will ever hear of this song. Mike has problems so Fishman kicks this one off followed quickly by the whole band. Then 10 seconds in there is an effect or something from Mike’s rig that repeats for like 5 seconds as the band plays underneath it. Super bizarre.

ENCORE: Theme From the Bottom: Standard, kind of a disappointing encore – this tune just doesn’t really work as a standalone encore.

Summary: Strong first set and thankfully this one breaks the mold of some pretty predictable setlists that this tour has been littered with. Two big bustout, a charted Reba which I feel has earned all-timer status and a good Antelope to wrap it up. The second set starts off strong with 2001. A scorching Maze in the 2 hole, a very strong Simple in the 4. But then things take a downturn. You wouldn’t think that based on what’s on paper, but this Mike’s Groove does not deliver the goods unfortunately, and the encore is meh as well. Oh well, Reba, Maze and Simple all have plenty of replay value. As such, I would rate this show as a 3.7 out of 5. I feel like the current rating of 4 out of 5 is too generous.
