The recording of the first set is good, but has some cuts in it and loses quality in the second set. The first set is unusually long and the second set is on the short side. I wonder if the setlist for the second set is incomplete, as the recording starts in the middle of Suzy Greenberg. AC/DC Bag is straightforward. Alumni> LTJP is dedicated to the new graduates from Syracuse. The jam in YEM gets pretty hot. The show notes say that it was dedicated to Fish's mom, who came all the way from Ireland, but I'm certain that Trey says that it's his mother, not Fishman's. Golgi and La Grange are on. There's a cut in the recording during Fluffhead, but most of it is on there, and it's pretty good. The following Possum is very nice, including the Andy Griffith theme teases. Foam sounds good, too. Walk Away is standard. Fishman has a nice drum solo in Take the A Train. SOAM sounds like it's on par the time period. A very nice Bowie closes a solid set. In addition to the Take the A Train and SOAM teases in the intro to Bowie, there is also a Fluffhead tease that should be noted. There's a cut in the Bowie jam, too.
As I mentioned, the recording starts in the middle of Suzy. Trey rips in Bold as Love. Lizards is ok. Hood has a pretty nice jam. Good playing from Trey in this one. I like If I Only Had a Brain as a Fishman tune. Contact and Fire close it out well. The Whipping Post encore is very improvisational. Excellent version. The jam goes full on ambient in the middle, not usual for 80s Phish at all.
I'll go with 4 stars.
