Review by lpenoza

lpenoza This was another of the solidly performed shows with unremarkable setlists that sometimes happened in 1994. There are gems that were played here in the first set, you just have to listen. The one very remarkable thing I recall about this show (and can be heard on the recording) is how the audience here in Seattle was once again able to maintain almost complete silence as the band drew the dynamics down to a whisper or during "silent pauses" (Foam, Geulah, Stash, Coil). Trey had remarked during the August 25, 1993 visit (Paramount Theater) that they don't often get an audience that can be so quiet, and we were rewarded with an unamplified acoustic mini-set on that occasion. On this night at the Moore, they took advantage of the situation with dynamics rather than insane improvisation (which they did with attitude upon their return to Olympia 11/30/94 and Salem 12/1/94). Listening to this show, there are many parts in which the band had our complete rapt attention. Stash is so precisely played here.

The concert had it's moments of craziness as the second set brought a Big Ball Jam - I had snagged a seat very near the stage (General Admission rules!) and I got several chances to handle Mike's BALL (go ahead and make the joke everyone tries). The BBJ's are usually "skip it" material for playback, but to be part of an audience PLAYING THE BAND is something you don't often do, and brought a closeness with the band that has to be experienced.

You gotta love a Bike from Fishman, and a Hood late in the show. The mood tends to be advanced if you follow. The excellent Bold As Love encore was a nod to the hometown of Jimi Hendrix - Seattle WA USA. I do wish PHiSH would return to play the city proper - 1996 was the last time. Can't complain too much about the FIVE 2-day stands at the Gorge though.
