FunkyCFunkyDo @Jmart and @Yucca and I am sure others, bring up a great, perfectly valid point, which I misidentified in my post. Cypress had not been formally announced to the fans at/before Oswego. However, after sleuthing through reviews and talking to 1.0 fans, people had an idea that something big was happening for NYE. Fan speculation aside, the point I was trying to make was that even if fans didn't know for sure about Cypress, Phish themselves did. So, my apologies for not being clear that I think Phish was looking ahead in time to Cypress during Oswego, hence the inconsistent and sometimes lost playing. I don't think they were fully invested into Oswego, as they new what they were planning for Cypress.
