Philosurfer Thank you for setting up this blog, posting this piece, and sharing the information about fandom studies. I'll be checking out the peer reviewed stuff etc in the future also. There are thoughts and ideas here that provide a different frame of reference or perspective for the music and overall live experience that I appreciate. The aspects of time, relativity, and mindfulness expressed in the piece made me recall some of my own experiences. For example, the wingsuit set could be a time related concept in my opinion; if considered in the context of how it was performed. If someone considers them playing an unreleased, future album a different variation of a musical costume, then it could be considered as playing as their "future selves". Within these thoughts, experiencing the set was interesting also, as it is (in my opinion) somewhat rare today for a band to play a new album that none of the fans have heard and "debut" it live: It could have added an additional layer of sorts; in the present, here and now, aspects mentioned in the article as well. The "future selves" might be an absurd stretch but it makes me chuckle. After all, it is phish, and they can be absurd themselves.
