blombekr This feels a bit fluffy. There were high moments to be sure - Trey asserting his presence more both with his vocals and his guitar (and sounding awesome), Bob relegating himself to his proper role of #2 man and singer of Bob songs only, the song selection, general atmosphere, etc. - but a tight and polished band this is not. In more songs than not, they just weren't on the same page. They could hardly ever agree when it was time to go back into a verse or keep a jam going. Trey knows he's in the position to lead this band, but Phil and Bob both think the same thing, and the result is a lack of cohesion in moments big and small (see: second chorus of Bertha solo section; beginning and end of Fire; latter half of Let It Grow jam section; -> to Franklin's). Last night was a grand time and a spectacle of massive proportions and musically up and down but always interesting. But it needs to be tighter, and I think it'll be hard for this band to achieve the kind of transcendence everyone wants with so little time spent playing with one another.
