HenryHolland Some fans prioritize tightly-played, mostly-if-not-wholly composed songs over songs that improvise and the improvisation that they contain

[raises hand] I got in to Phish via the prog rock angle and because I liked their short "pop" songs like Waste, Sleep and so on. I had avoided them for years because of their "Grateful Dead clones who jam for 20 minutes" rep, but I stumbled across Bittersweet Motel on cable one night and what drew me in was Trey playing Sleep in his garage. "Oh, they have a good songwriting thing going on, OK".

It takes all kinds of phans, doesn't it?
