my impression is that the disco biscuits keep things easy for themselves in this regard by having a much, much smaller stylistic envelope for jams (and songs) than phish do. phish's segues are compelling partly because they're so often unpredictable -- energy > fluff > piper came out of nowhere.

trey's 'write a song in every key for every setlist position' mania makes phish's segue-happy past all the more impressive, i think.
