 Scalping could be discouraged pretty easily simply by raising the face value.  Face value is obviously lower than it should be, or at least than it should have been for NYEMSG.  For events like that, it's about capitalizing supply and demand.  Phish could do many things for the attendees to reward them for actual attendance (with the extra earnings).
