I'll limit my quibbles to one, for the moment (not counting the Roadrunner matter): the 8/17 UIC second set is *all* very much worth hearing - not 'exceptional' in the 'best ever' sense (no one greatest-ever track), but the whole set through Makisupa is so richly and consistently detailed and attentive and cohesive that I can't actually pull out a single track anyhow! I don't even mean the Crosseyed teases, either - who needs 'em, when there's a beautiful Caspian > Piper segue to hear, and a DEG-style Tweezer to lead into that Caspian? Or those awesome effects in the C&P > No Quarter transition jam?

I don't mind the 'space' jamming at all, either - compared to, say, the mid- and late-90's, they're doing so much more with their freeform jamming these days that I now get excited when songs dissolve into the aether! You don't need it every song, but it makes good sense in the 8/17 C&P, which meets its quota of balls-out rock'n'roll noise. (I want very little of that sort of thing in my Phish sets, frankly; hence my disdain for Antelope...)

OK one more thing: there's a lot of good stuff going on in that brief-but-potent 8/8 Piper. Not to be missed! It sounds 'directionless' but I *think* that's willful abstraction and thorniness - a strategy, not a failing.
