I also really dug the optimistic juxtaposition of Dark and Down/ Push On Till the Day.

Settled into my seat during Ooh-Child. The power of the compositions all night were spectacular, but I feel that Trey really might benefit from updating, polishing, sharpening his approach to guitar soloing. He used to give all his composed and orchestrated music to Phish, but TAB gets the best of it, and they do it really well.

The theater is beautiful, but the sound is muddy. Goodbye Head worked well early in the second set. Too deep a musical dive for so late in the show as been done before. The lyrics are kinda shallow, more a greeting than an intimate trust, and the orchestral passage is extremely deep. After a song like that, the only way to go is up. So I appreciate that Trey played it earlier in the set. Improves the song remarkably.

I'm a long time fan of Gone, and I'm so glad it's becoming at TAB staple. Sounds good, too.

The Cressman duel on Mozambique was great. Jeff's soloing is sharp, poigniant, snaps with energy and punch. Best soloist to take the stage last night, in my opinion. Dark and Down..... Trey tore that shit apart!

During Traveler, during the lyrics, it felt to me like the music kissed the life of the universe for just a moment and the art and the true aspect met for just a moment. Very sweet.

Tuesday was a great encore to go out dancing on.

Maybe not the best show I've ever seen, but it was beautiful. I'm so overly critical of Trey after following him for years. And I was tired and sat chilling and listening for much of the night. Not all the lyrics connect with me, I suppose, but songs like Scabbard are really amazing live, and definitely take you places.

Those short solos Trey plays on his way into the improvs are the best, and his later solos sometimes sound like endlessly peaking wankery that rises above and alienates itself from the rhythm section a bit. Reminds me of the statement: "better for a thousand people to take one step forward together than for one person to take a thousand steps forward alone." I suspect that the entire band hitting a small crescendo together will sound and feel superior to Trey hitting a skyscraping crescendo above a stationary rhythm section. That's my theory.

Nonetheless, I can't wait for tonight.

I guess ticketmaster sold out to stub hub, and then put the tickets back on sale through the official channel last night. A friend got in through will call at the box office after calling in his order while driving down from Santa Cruz.

Going back to my memories of this show 8-1/2 years later because it was one of my favorites.
I was 7 mos pregnant and sporting a custom Ryan Kerrigan T-shirt with The Fox Theater sketch on front ( the actual building as if looking from across the street) and " Find your treasures where you will, don't you stop until you've had your fill" lyrics on the back. I had listened to Traveler constantly and was ready for my big ( literally) sober, finger pricking ( gestational diabetes ) show. For me, it was all that. Eliminating the beers for this show allowed me to focus on my favorite band in a new way. My crew had floors and I asked the kind APE folks if there was a place for a pregger mama like me to sit when I needed to rest, and they gave my husband and I wristbands for the Friends and Family area. I was pleased to use that space when I needed it. Thank you!
So we raged the floor lovingly until I needed a rest. I grabbed a sausage sandwich from the restaurant in back, pricked my finger, recorded it, and settled into one of my favorite tracks on the new album. Greyhound Rising. But ugh! The F&F section had probably seen and heard it a million times, because I recall mostly talkers and not many listeners. I found a spot as close to that rail as I could and just waved my arms back and forth singing along. Thankful for that moment, I enjoyed Scabbard then returned to my crew on the floor for that epic Mozambique. Jeff Cressman is the man!!!!! So fun to watch the Daddy/ Daughter duet on this tune. I was dancing up a storm once again.

So not a full review- but a shared moment from my memories of that beautiful show.

PS: Architect that night was epic! Our first one and we enjoyed the spotlight reflecting from Trey's guitar. It's shined brightly on me and my crew as I felt my daughter move around in my womb. We all continue to raise our glass to the architect.

Ready for the next visit to the Fox with Dezron.

Night one of the TAB run in Oakland contained almost every song that I was hoping to see! I really thought the first set was rockin' pretty hard and there were some awesome jams. Cayman Review, Alive Again, and Push on Til The Day were all fantastic and exactly what I expected. The crowd at the Fox was getting down as well and you could tell Big Red was having a great time. I'd never really been into Magilla, but after seeing TAB shred it to pieces I can say that I am officially a fan now. Then we even got a treat and Jeff Cressman came out to play on Mozambique, another one of my TAB faves.

I wanted nothing more than a raging TAB Sand and I got it first song of the second set. I've always been into Valentine so that was a nice treat and then BOOM! Night Speaks was definitely HOT HOT HOT and followed up nicely with Architect, which featured the cool effect of having the spotlights reflecting off Trey's guitar, making him seem even more like a Jedi Master. Of all the new Traveler songs, I really like Architect the most, along with Scabbard and Land of Nod.

I really loved the song selection on night one. When I was leaving the show I was thinking to myself, "what songs haven't they played yet?!"
