Review by Tiddlywinks

Tiddlywinks T-Winks here…reporting from ground zero. And HFS…what an incredible show (for you elderly…that’s Holy Fu @ing s$&/. So let’s recap: Phish has opened the summer tour with 3 outdoor shows at a venue with a curfew and have gotten warmed up and now we have a Tuesday show in an intimate indoor venue…sets up for the possibility of IT. And IT we got. This show is worth a relisten from front to back and back to front. First set was a serious nod to those of you who grew up in the 1.0 era…great deep Phish..

Question - has Phish ever played a first set Golden Age? Regardless of that answer, have they ever played a better first set Golden Age?

This entire show flows together…it was one of those nights where it didn’t matter what songs they played, there was a groove that connected every song in the greatest Phish way. Thank you Phish for delivering on the possibility of greatness on any given night.

bootywink First set was full of some rippers! Loved the Gumbo, Funky Bitch, Guyute run. All of the boys sounded pretty on tonight and it was clear they were havin' fun up there. That Golden Age jam was also, pardon the pun, solid gold.

Second set was even better. Four vehicles one after another in the first four tracks, all super solid jams. Especially loved how dark the Kill Devil Falls jam got, not to mention the great Ruby Waves. Overall a super fun show, albeit unfortunate to have the Piper rip-chord'd for Mercy, lol. Loved hearing Julius in the encore.

Review by yam_ekaj

yam_ekaj plasma, kdf, carini and ruby waves all contain extremely inspired jamming, particularly kdf which was mind-blowing. something i noticed: fishman had a weird night—he seemed a little shaky on composed stuff throughout (trey was also perhaps to blame on some awkward moments). however, he absolutely dominated the jams, pushing the kdf to driving, almost hypnotic psychedelia

another note: delightful to see trey using his original languedoc-built cabinets, and looked like he added mesa boogie back to the rig as well. love that—his tone was on point (see funky bitch intro solo for example).

Review by Sopath

Sopath This is such an awesome show. Really good first set not just from a song choice perspective but also just an excellent display of guitar work from Trey from Gumbo through Guyute. The Golden Age was good and so was The Waste. I really like Evolve but I might be getting a bit tired of it.

The second set though is from start to finish fucking incredible. The jamming from Plasma through Ruby Waves was incredibly inspired, experimental, and catchy. Just loved it. Great Everything's Right to close out on and I love that you can hear the crowd.

Phish has gotten off to a hot start this Summer, which is pretty good after honestly kind of slumping through some shows last Summer early in the Tour. Hoping they stay on a heater through next week when I see them a DC.

Review by Phan3123

Phan3123 My first time back at Mohegan since 2019. I like this little venue, but I also like the Casino atmosphere. It’s a good place to see a Phish show and is convenient.

Set 1 starts with Martian Monster, which is a solid little version. Rift is well played and always a song I enjoy live. Next we get the highlight of the set with Golden Age. I really liked the call here and it’s a very nice first set jam. Gumbo and Funky Bitch are both good calls and the set continues to flow nicely. Guyute pops up and it is well received by the New England faithful. One of my favorites so no complaints. Undermind, Evolve, Waste>Walls of the Cave round out the set nicely, but all fairly standard.

Set 2 starts out with a four headed monster IMO. Plasma is a great song that I really enjoy, I’ve caught some great ones and this one is no different. Very good jam. Kill Devil Falls is just so sick. They really have jammed this song so well in the last few years. Carini emerges from this fantastic jam and is another highlight of this set. It weaves in and out of a few ideas and lands into Ruby Waves. This is a good version that doesn’t stray to far away from itself, but a version worth listening to nonetheless. Piper is next and continues the set nicely. We then land in Mercy. This is not my favorite, but I didn’t mind the placement of this version after a great set leading up to it. Everything’s Right closes the set nicely. Julius and About to Run in the encore slot were an interesting combo they worked in the moment.

Set 1 highlights-> Golden Age.

Set 2 highlights-> Plasma> Kill Devil Falls(Highly Recommended)> Carini.

I really liked this show. I thought it was better than both shows in 2019. I’d rate this one a 4.30/5.
