Some of the fans cheered the mention of Québec during Fee, which featured Trey singing the verses through a megaphone. Antelope included a brief jam on Pink Floyd’s Money and a tease of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy by Page. Chalk Dust contained Money and Lazy (Deep Purple) teases from Trey. Ya Mar contained an I Can’t Turn You Loose tease from Page and funny stage banter as Trey tried to bring “Leo” in too early. Page teased Gimme Some Lovin' in Mound. Sanity was teased in Reba. Hydrogen included a tease of Jingle Jangle Jingle, with a bassline somewhat akin to Happy Trails. Weekapaug included the theme from Bonanza and Can’t You Hear Me Knocking teases from Page and an NICU tease from Trey. Fish dedicated Terrapin to his friends from Burlington who made the trip to see the band. Makisupa was played for the first time since November 26, 1990 (323 shows). The beginning of My Friend featured Trey on acoustic guitar. Mike teased the Beverly Hillbillies theme in the soundcheck's Reggae Jam.

Review by DollarBill

DollarBill After a day off the boys continue their journey through Canada. This is the second and last show at Le Spectrum in a little over four months and from what I remember, the other show was better than this one. There are some good songs in there and lots of fun teases, but overall they are just not there tonight, if you like precision playing. The sound wasn’t bad, just the usual tweaks from Paul and some monitor feedback most notably in Antelope. Pretty decent recording as well, though I added some high-end to make the cymbals pop out a bit more.

Melt opener? Strange, but they do pretty well until a rough bridge part and some sound tweaks at the end. Pen was good, the Sloth was a bit rusty, and Jim was good, but off at little at the end. Horn was also rusty sounding before an absolutely ripping Llama. I expect no less from that one. Glide was good, Rift is getting there, but still a bit rushed in the timing and not fully locked in. Fee was good, and of course the crowd got a kick out of the Quebec line. Antelope had some feedback, but fun teases and a great jam to wrap up this average set.

Chalk Dust rocks the opener spot with no real problems. Ice was pretty average for this tour. Ya Mar has been recently put back into rotation and Trey really throws this one off in the middle. It never quite rebounded, but you do get some funny Mike screams at the end. Continuing with the Mike sound, we get an average Mound and then the Balls come out… Which means, according to official protocol we have a heavily composed song coming up which is Reba. Stay as far away from this one as you can, I warned you. About thirty seconds in Trey must have broken a string or something because the next five or so minutes are a hellish soundscape of bad notes. I believe the band is aware of this, but there is nothing they can do until Trey can pick up another guitar, which it sounds like he does before the end solo. Mike's was pretty good with some kind of teases in the jam and it sounds like the Simple lick is evolving further. Hydrogen wasn’t all that bad tonight, complete with old west teases. Weekapaug rocked and also had lots of teases and dynamics going on including a huge bust-out of Makisupa Policeman! After all that, HYHU brings Fish out for a funny dedication of Terrapin to everyone. Trey had a rough time in the middle of Coil making it really sub-par, so Page is left to clean up the mess of tonight’s fun, but disastrous second set.

Noooooooooo! There is no recording of the My Friend encore!!! What a bummer, I love that song and I don’t think it’s ever been the encore before. Oh well, Adeline is missing as well, but I’m sure it was fine.

I really don’t think the overall show deserves four stars, but I feel obligated to bump it up to four because of the Makisupa bust-out. A very reluctant four stars…

Review by SplitOpenAndMule

SplitOpenAndMule I loved listening to this show. I'd put the WeekapaugSupa Police Groove among of the best type-2 jams they've played to date, but there's a lot more in this show.

The energy is excellent throughout. Phish just recently (4/21/93) figured out how to jam Split Open and Melt (that jam appears on Hoist), and tonight it opened the show in a powerful, if straightforward, way. Runaway Jim is hotter than usual (and at this point, it's always hot), and while Antelope doesn't go too far out, the Money tease infuses the song with some great blues Phish rock, while also breaking down and getting quiet before soaring to its rightful peak.

In set 2, Ya Mar is very worth hearing. It's hilarious. Trey accidentally shouts "Play it Leo!" too early, and then shouts "Don't play it yet!" as the song continues, followed by Trey and Mike both screaming for Leo, playing or not. Fittingly, Leo destroys his organ solo, with a very excellent Can't Turn You Loose tease near its end.

Mike's Song has extra funk riffing and rocking. The 2nd jam sounds like what would happen if Simple had been written by P-Funk instead of Phish. Hydrogen has an extended intro, interspersing the Hydrogen melody alongside Page's piano rendition of Jingle Jangle Jingle mixed with Happy Trails. And then comes Weekapaug, which is an amazing journey. It sounds like a masterclass and great example of Phish's "Hey!" practice exercise translated onto the stage in a live show. It goes many places, including the Makisupa bustout, all traveling through the psychic, singular, group musical mind that makes this band so amazing.

To wrap up the recording (I'd love to hear the encore MFMF if it exists), Page's Coil solo sounds much more inspired and vibrant than normal. Just beautiful.

As the other reviewer points out, there are some technical flubbs (Trey is so out of tune in the composed section of Reba it's painful), but to my ears and heart, the energy is 100% on at this show.
