dscott Fascinating glimpse of early Phish at their best and worst. As the other reviewer noted, there is plenty of slop. The band sounds tentative at best on most of the composed segments, and sometimes things get downright ugly. The 1st set is salvaged by an interesting YEM, which features a voraciously alternate Page organ jam out of the "Wash Uffize" vocals. Set 2 is a heady mix of fiery garage-style covers and innocently naive originals. Reba goes to some gorgeous places during the jam, albeit imperfectly. The Jagermeister-infused Bowie is a hoot, with some worthy jamming that makes it more than just a quirky novelty.

TheEmu I probably would have given this a 2 star rating, but the Jagermeister song is pretty damn funny.

TheEmu (continued)

The rest of the show is pretty meh, though. Kinda sloppy in places, just kind of off. I think you can hear how some of them, particularly Page, are still growing at this point. I tend to not like these really early 90's shows, though, so, whatever, two cents.
