From the moment I woke up that morning I knew I was in for a treat. I jumped on my bike and rolled down to my friends house. He was sitting there poking holes in a Pepsi can, the Allman Brothers on blast coming from inside... We took a minute then we were off to see his mom. She was the manager at the gas station. Three miles later, almost without hands we walked through the doors. The sent of patchouli forewarned me what I was about to see. Most years I spent my Xmas's in Orange County California. A group of college kids all tie dyed, one had her makeup on . I just turned fourteen but it wasn't my first rodeo.
I grew up in special places. Doing special things. I was a Boy Scout. Trained to survive. I mean just eleven days earlier I was standing ten feet in front of Van Halen in full display. (That show shut the New York State thruway down so many people showed up.) I had already had the opportunity to see the Allman Brothers, Metallica, Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Motorhead, David Lee Roth, Cinderella, Alice in Chains, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax all at the same place.
The Cayuga County Fairgrounds also known as Weedsport Speedway. The other scouts and I had the responsibility to clean up after the events. In doing so we were allowed to attend all the events for free. We always made out awesome especially from ground scores! Lmao.
Let's just say I was familiar with The Dead at a pretty young age. So when I saw the parking lot and the returnables everywhere I was ready to see what was going on. I walked down on the track and all the cool kids from high-school and the older scouts were burning. The show speaks for itself. I still listen to it on YouTube. I don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers but I'll say I remember what went down at the end, a little different than the other reports. I was blown away and turned into a life long fan. When the guys put down their instruments and gave everything they had I knew I'd be seeing them again. The parking lot was almost like shakedown street but much less organized This one ranks high for me. I could go on for days. And this was just the beginning. Much love and respect. 4.7
