Review by TheEmu

TheEmu So the bulk of this show is, to me, another typical '91 gig. Mostly very tight, enjoyable, few musical excursions. I liked the Tweezer, and there's another very nice Chalkdust to open the second set. Trey has major problems with the start of YEM, and the guest harmonica player isn't all that. Pretty average Reba, with slop in the composed section but a strong ending (C-/C). The Tweeprise is also a little rough. So, through two sets, I thought this was a 3 star show.

Then the Encore came, and it was a blast. You have a truly unique version of Terrapin with an intro other than HYHU that has Fishman (and me) asking "What the hell is this?" But instead of waiting for them to quit playing whatever it was (I think Page is teasing Funkytown at one point, not sure) he just starts singing Terrapin, and they keep the beat of what they were playing before for the entire version. It's great! To follow this, you have one of the greatest versions of BBFCFM of ALL TIME. Seriously. How can you beat lines like "He's gonna fucking kill you! He's gonna kill you, motherfucker!" and "Who's smokin' pot? Jesus, I hate pot smokin'! Shit! 1...2...3...1234!!!" "Eddie Van Anastasio!" and, of course "I like to sprrreaaad ass! Yeah...spread it!! See you in the next room...wherever that may be!" Totally classic. I know these don't count as amazing musical highlights, but they're a ton of fun and were the highlight of the show for me. It may seem silly to award an extra star for spreading ass, but that's exactly what I'm gonna do here and go 1...2...3....1234 Stars!!!
