Carrey is one of the few non-musicians to appear with Phish, and his appearance was only for a few friends and crewmembers. Best known as the star of such movies as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Truman Show, and Man on the Moon and the television series In Living Color, Carrey was in Vermont shooting his movie Me, Myself, and Irene while Phish was rehearsing for their Summer 1999 tour. Someone hooked the two up and Carrey showed up at Trey’s barn for a rehearsal. He added vocals to the Beatles’ “Come Together” and Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s “Hey You,” neither of which has been performed before or since. Unfortunately, recordings do not circulate, so Carrey’s performance of the tunes remains a mystery.
