Andrea is one of the most accomplished vocalists to grace the Phish stage. Her performance credits span the entertainment gamut, from jazz vocalist to operatic singer to musical performer, and she has experienced enormous success in her recording career.
Baker – a stunning African-American woman who was bald at the time and appeared in an all-white robe –appeared with Phish on 5/27/94 at San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre. During an extended second set “Mike’s Groove” that included the debut of “Simple,” the band stopped and she sang, without the aid of a microphone, Puccini’s aria “O Mio Babbino Caro” (translated: “Oh Dear Daddy”) from the opera Gianni Schicchi. In the aria, she sings the torments of young love and threatens to throw herself from a bridge if her love is not returned. No doubt inspired by Puccini, Andrea and the band then distributed boxes of macaroni and cheese for the audience to shake during the ensuing “Possum.”
