I was, and remain shocked, at how many fish fans expressed feelings similar to yours. It's as though people have forgotten the primary, fundamental rule of phish: surprise is the only constant. It's literally the only reason to keep seeing a band after X # of years. Repetition (aka traditions) are something to rail against, not expect.

"Expectations" have ruined more shows than any glowstick war, woo chant, or whale calls combined. (For the record, i love all of these things.)

One of these days they're going to repeat a setlist too, and people will freak out, and I will be overjoyed--phish, just breaking the rules (meant to be broken) as they always do.
