2nd set. Alive Again came out with energy and I can't remember if the Landy teases came out in this or in Money Love and Change but this Alive awoken the crowd early in 2nd set. The along came an Ooh Child which was fresh air full of happiness and smiles as Trey pushed the solo a I'll longer than expected. Played tight and very solid. Then came a 2nd set highlight and very dark and dirty intro of Money Love and Change! From the intro you knew TAB was going to release something good and we were rewarded with fine lyrical balance by JHa, Chainsaw and Casey while Trey,Tony, Russ, and RayRay dug back into a solid groove. This was definitely pushed deeper to compliment the form of Phish's heavy summer 2012 2nd sets. Next up was Architect. As the new album came out I was looking forward to this with the intro being very beautiful and the chorus having power it translated great live and I love raising my glass to this Architect! Clint Eastwood as expected was destroyed by JHa and was welcomed by the crowd. Trey was given flowers during the show and handed them to JHa as she clearly deserved them. I would of course split them up and given some to Chainsaw as well with her great work throughout the night Next up was probably the biggest surprise of the night with Plasma and damn it was played with perfection, precision, and solid sound from inside the Chicago Theatre. If you get a chance to hear this again take a listen. Perhaps this is where I heard the Landlady tease? Anyhow Plasma was a highlight and Cyro was definitely welcomed warmly in this arrangement. Next up Magilla which was played with immense confidence and precision. Every single TAB member was highlighted here. Then came Devil Went Down To Georgia where in fact the devil awaken the crowd as a rowdy ballroom. A lot of hands in the air and the horn section went off! Trey was full of energy and was a highlight for the band. Then came one of my favorite TAB songs in The Way I Feel. Not my favorite versions since I always want it to explode with bluesy funky riffs but it had a little of everything. Trey really showed patience with this tune and Tony laid down a solid groovy baseline which reminds me of Phish's Steam! The tune was broken down where the crowd joined in with some clapping as Cyro energized the crowd as he does best. The band clearly welcomed this tune and was great band to crowd interaction. I just wish the crowd held up there end of the bargain more and TAB would of rewarded us more with a darker groovy jam. Although I loved this tune it still leftist wanting more. Them came along Trey's tune that he wrote with or for his daughter Goodbye Head. It was played great and was surprised by the nice strong push at the end of the jam which also left you wanting more. To close out the set was First Tube which was played solid by TAB. Trey as always was full of energy and plinko-ed his way through the song with precision. There was some plotting jamming going on for a bit but definitely a high energy set and set closer.
As the encore began beautifully with At The Gazebo the room was full of excellent sound. Very beautiful playing by the horn section and would say the room was full of top quality sound at this moment. Was very impressed with the sound guy and the way the instruments were sounding. Let's see how it holds up on soundboard recordings hopefully. Then came the much anticipated Traveler in my eyes. This song has got great potential not only for TAB but for the band Phish. It is beautifully written and has some giant notes and soloing by Trey that makes it a must hear/see at a show. The powerful notes and lyrics really made me smile from ear to ear and thought it was played great. Half the crowd did not seem to know much of it since it was fairly new but I thought was a perfect closer and one of best songs of the night. It is by far one of the best songs on the new Album which is solid. Overall I had a great show. I also wrote this review with one quick thought so apologize for any bad spelling or if I went too quick since I did not go back and re-read it to check for mistakes. You got to go out and see TAB! Such a fun band and feels very family oriented and I am happy to be apart of this family. Ray Ray is a great keyboard/piano player and one of my favorites. I hope you enjoyed my rambling review and I'll end it on #sand #getintothegroove
