As organizer Paige E. Clem put it, "The Phellowship is a group of Phish-heads who chose to remain entirely drug and alcohol free and who provide support, information, and 'phellowship' to those who wish to remain clean and sober at shows. This group has no opinion on the issue of drugs and alcohol, but simply exists as a way for people who choose to remain clean and sober to contact each other in the marvelous world of Phish. To find out more, visit our web site at: http://www.phellowship.org." (old site
The Phellowship has had a presence on the Phish.Net since early 1996, and began setting up tables at shows during the Fall 1996 tour. Phish allowed them permanent usage of a table inside venues beginning in Summer 1997. "This table will work," Paige said, "as a 'head quarters' of sorts for The Phellowship, and will provide information about The Phellowship, as well as a meeting area between, and hopefully throughout, sets."
"Reality is a crutch for people who can't cope with drugs."
