While we want to include Tweezer reviews from as many people as possible, Charlie Dirksen has written the vast majority of them. Here are a few words from him:

Disclaimer for all Dirksen reviews: Charlie wrote many of these reviews a long time ago and they do not necessarily comport with his current views.

*** I went into this long ago with the idea that an average Tweezer was "great," and would have a rating of 5.0 on a 10.0 Scott Jordan Concert Review Poll scale. Keeping that in mind, here are the Tweezers and their ratings, but you especially observant ones will readily ascertain that the average of those listed below is, in fact, in the vicinity of 6 and not 5. If a ? appears in the timing column, it means that I didn't time it. The version is likely not something to get excited about. Also, the timings are rounded sometimes, and given the slight differences between deck speeds, your copy should not equal this time. So please don't email me to tell me that my timing is off, because I'm sure it is. If a rating really pisses you off, then I hope you'll publicly explain why you think a particular version deserves better or worse treatment. I hope you get the opportunity, though, to hear versions which I've rated very highly, to give you an idea of what I consider to be exceptional versions. Please remember at all times that it is JUST TWO CENTS. date rating timing notes 03/28/90 0.5 8:10 Long drum intro 04/05/90 3.5 9:34 05/23/90 4.0 11:17 (very amusing opening) 09/14/90 3.5 11:34 (lots of signals) 09/20/90 4.0 14:35 (Buried Alive) 10/31/90 5.5 9:15 (Heartbreaker teases) 11/30/90 3.5 9 12/28/90 6.0 11 (Manteca) 02/07/91 4.0 12:38 (first Tweezer Reprise) 02/20/91 5.5 11:09 (Fishman howls..) 03/13/91 5.5 9:30 03/29/91 4.5 10 04/11/91 4.0 ? 04/27/91 7.5 10 (Sweet Emotion jam) 05/03/91 5.5 10 (Sweet Emotion quote/jam) 07/21/91 5.1 10 (GCH) 07/26/91 6.0 10:30 (GCH) 08/03/91 6.0 10:25 10/19/91 3.5 10 11/01/91 3.0 9 11/14/91 5.5 11:55 11/21/91 4.0 11 12/31/91 4.5 13 PON 4.0 8:42 (Picture of Nectar version) 03/17/92 4.5 11:19 03/25/92 4.5 11 03/30/92 4.5 10:40 04/07/92 4.25 11:24 04/17/92 6.2 10:30 04/21/92 8.0 13 (really melodic jam) 04/30/92 6.0 11:30 (hysterical opening; Hampton on trumpet) 05/03/92 5.5 11:48 05/07/92 5.5 12:30 08/17/92 7.0 ? (Catapult; dogshit version) If forced to rate the Experimental Never-Ending Tweezers, I'd put Bozeman, Mud Island, and the FLeezer all next to each other on top (11/28/94, 6/14/95, and 6/22/95, respectively), then Bangor 11/2/94 (ALO version), and, well, as regards Jones Beach 6/28/95, outside of the jamming surrounding and during the Dave's Energy Guide (which is spectacular!), I think it is about as exciting as an excellent version of Cavern. 11/23/94 is a magnificent version of Tweezer, with some of the most beautiful spacey jamming (and jam out of space) I've ever heard from Phish. I like it more than all of the other crazy versions, except probably Bozeman. two cents, charlie
