Can you believe the GUMBO in this set!?? LORD ALMIGHTY! I really
liked the jamming in the two minutes or so before Sanity segued in. I
hoped they would have taken this one out even further. But Sanity was
fun, of course.

Tweezer's opening segment is standard (punchy, deep, phaaaat) until
around 3:20, when Page takes off on the MOOOOOOG for a couple of
measures. A very unusual appearance from the Moog. No screaming from
the band after Ebeneezer, but the crowd gets into it, as well they
should! =^]

Jam segment begins at 4:40. Fairly repetitious and uneventful
opening, although the chords Trey throws out around 6:15 are
suspiciously "Moma Dance" chords (played a bit more slowly).
Page is playing some great chords on the piano throughout this jam,
and it's refreshing to hear him so well in the mix. (7 mins)

Trey begins soloing, finally, and noodles around. Doesn't get too
interesting, IMO, until after 9mins, when everyone starts blending
well and Trey starts soaring in the upper reaches of his Languedoc
hollowbody. Some sweet trilling around 10:50! Some very climactic,
spirited jamming around this point (11:20) to be sure! Fish goes to
town on his kit! Very impressive, collective jamming. Things drop
back a bit around 11:50, and Trey starts chording in a dark, plodding
fashion. The jam could segue into "Walk Away" easily at this point
(12:23). Nothing terribly exciting. Just a dark and raw jam.
Marches along, repetitively. Around 13:31, I could almost imagine a
segue into "Free".. this plodding jam starts (intentionally) losing
steam, slowing down, steadily, steadily, slowing down. (Trey is still
on the same chords he was three minutes earlier, basically) Trey
plays the first chord of "Horse" at 15:59. (no segue to speak of..
just a > )

This Tweezer peaked well but then fell into a rather dull, repetitive
jam. Easy 6.5 rating. The only thing truly special was the appearance
of the Moog in the opening segment. Page almost never plays the moog
in Tweezer (anywhere in Tweezer). In fact, I can't think of a single
version of Tweezer that features a moog solo. Can you?

two cents,
charlie

p.s. Anyone else an UNCLE? I just became an uncle this week (for the
first time, to my knowledge) and fortunately got to see my new nephew,
JADEN (the first non-waspy name in the immediate family), since my
brother lives out here in the Bay Area. Jaden isn't as cute as Syd
Schwartz's little girl Emily JADE, but despite a pointy head, he's
still pretty cute.

In other news, have you checked out the
http://www.jambase.com/marshallinterview.asp at all?? Tom Marshall's
responses to many of the questions (both the good questions and the
lame ones) are hysterical... I got the Amfibian Tales CD from
CDStreet.com today. The cover art is pretty cool. There's a picture
of Tom on the back of the disc, too. You might recognize him as the
tall, handsome guy who has politely asked you to move out of his seat
at shows. ;-) If you want to hear parts of the disc, then look around
on the web.. I bet you can probably hear tracks somewhere.
http://www.furrythug.com/ might be a good place to start. I like some
tracks on the disc a lot (especially Salamander Spread), and others I
don't much careful. But IMO it's worth picking up.. at least to
support Tom/Amfibian.. and even CDStreet.com... hopefully Phish will
be independent one day soon, too.
