Thanks very much for Marcus Pearson for turning me on to this YEM!

Trey is very loose in the opening, but the pre-Nirvana spacey,
mystical section is quite pleasant. There's a significant amount of
audience clapping and screaming during it, too. "Nirvana" at 3:43,
and Page's playing on the grand is delightful. Mike's little solo
section at 4:35 contains some ferociously dark riffs -- Mike employed
some kind of FUZZ effect. The pre-charge section is strong, and Trey
nails the first shot at the Note and sustains it well, pleasing the
crowd (which sounds really into this YEM on this tape). Second shot
at the Note is nailed and jammed well around, too. Charge at 6:55 and

BOY, after a thrilling scream, 7:12. If there was ever any doubt what
they say in "You Enjoy Myself," the pronunciation is so clear in this
version that there should be no mistaking WASH UFFIZI DRIVE ME TO
FIRENZI. Page tools around on the organ, and piano, alternatively,
between WUDMTF verses. Trampolines jam at 9:16, with Mike giving the
signals for the moves. Mike comes wicked close to teasing "Order of a
Lonely Heart" (YES) with one of his licks in here (not quite there).
Trey and Mike join in with Page, jamming at 10:30, and Page becomes
increasingly more inspired on the organ. Nice groove develops (11
mins), becoming increasingly more punchy.

At 11:24 the jam segment effectively begins (Page drops back), but
Trey isn't interested in leading. Mike has picked up a deliciously
funky-yet-melodious riff that he continues to repeat, and Trey and
Page just chord off of this. It's impossible not to dance to this!
It's a simple yet very compelling groove. No ambience here, folks.
This ain't background music. Trey is riffing inbetween the primary
chords of this rich groove, and then takes off soloing more up front
around 13 mins. YES!! HIT ME!!! KICK MY ASS!! Trey just takes
off in here, and Page, Mike and Fish accompany his licks profoundly.
Excellent collective jamming!! (15:20) There's frankly only a handful
of jams I've heard from 1999 that even compete with the spirit of this
jam. Phish was still trying to win fans back then.

Jam cools off around 16 mins, quiets down. Crowd starts clapping
along. Then it picks up again, and they lock into another sah-weeeet
jam. This this one quiets down, and at 17:30 it is just Trey noodling
on his Languedoc hollowbody. Then nothing except the crowd. At 17:56
Fish kicks it back in, accompanied primarily by Page on the grand and
Mike.

At 18:13 it is bass and drums time. Mike and Fish accompany each
other really well in this section.. heavy bass AND drums. Good... at

20:09 the closing WUDMTF vocals begin. I can't tell what the hell
they are saying (but it sounds like they might be repeating a phrase
really fast in this vocal jam, at least in the first minute). Around
22:30 I think Trey vocalizes "My Soul," for whatever that's worth.
This is one of the vocal jams that features a wide variety of
sounds/utterances. It takes awhile to get harmonious. And it ends a
couple minutes after it does. Total time about 26:20 (after a few
seconds, HYHU begins).

This version rocked in the jam segment, but was otherwise fairly
straightforward Great YEM. B+ rating, for those who care.

two cents,
