I can't even begin to tell you the religiosity of the Phish show last
evening -- once again the band managed to completely destroy and
rewrite my preconceived notions about what is laughingly still called
"rock" music. The show was mind-numbing, an absolutely eclectric
experience, from start to finish. They did "The Vibration of Life"
which I had never even heard of before. Does anyone know the full
scoop with this? Also, they did "Sweet Adeline" a capella -- after
those barbershop quartet lessons, those harmonies are sounding mighty
tight! Hmm...what else? Some yahoo was screaming "SUZY GREENBERG!"
during said barbershop quartet, which was annoying...I'm really
enjoying the "Rift" songs, too: "Fast Enough" was splendid and moving,
first time I'd heard it, and "Auxilla" was about the most Zappa-esque
thing I've ever heard them do, which made me happy. Plus a good
"Reba," a phenomenal "You Enjoy Myself," "Love You"...well, suffice
to say my brain is lying in little pieces on the floor of First
Avenue.
I tried to keep a setlist, but my brain blew up after "Maze" and I
lost track after that. Anyone? Anyone?
Also, DID ANYONE TAPE THAT SHOW?????? I WOULD KILL SMALL CHILDREN TO
FIND A TAPE OF THAT SHOW!!!!!! E-Mail me if anyone knows anything
about this (taping, not killing children.)
Thank You,
Jon Hunt
