From: ingraffi@tramp.Colorado.EDU (INGRAFFIA EDMOND J) Subject: Phish at the Phox....Boulder 4-5-92 Fox Theater, Boulder, CO 4/5/92 Man, THIS SHOW ROCKED!!!! First of all, this Fox Theater is a brand new music venue as of March 6 (the funky Meters opened up the place that night...whatta show, but another story..:^).....and the sound system in this place is awesome!! The show wasn't announced until Sat. night at the CU Fieldhouse show. Luckily for Glenn Russell and myself, we had just pulled into Boulder Sunday a.m., back from the mountains, as well as the Beaver Creek show. As Richard posted, a good show, but a bit unfocused...anyway, the Phox was sellin' those tix like hotcakes around 1 p.m....no line, but constant purchasing. As expected the show sold out, but the Fire marshals have cut the capacity in the Phox from 700 to 550...great call, as we were up in front the whole first set...and NO FLAILERS! :^) :^) Very comfortable...my whole Newcastle Brown Ale ended up in my stomach rather than mostly on my arm and the floor. A much appreciated respite from the all-ages thrash fest in Beaver Creek (the Fox show was 21-over). Llama just blew the place apart to open the show! Trey's guitar solo was one of the best I've ever seen ANYONE play...he had to do his classic hand-shaking after this first tune! Guelah is one of my faves, and it was excellent as usual. Divided Sky had the ENDLESS JAM at the end...Trey must have soloed for at least 8 or 9 minutes! Wilson was cool, and Stash cranked over the one we heard in BCreek. I dig Rift, a quality addition to the repetoire, and this one was tight! Possum...classic version...lots of wild interplay before they ripped into it. Adeline was a "sweet" ending to an amazing first set...amazing that this was only half the show! The second set was the best set of Phish I've ever seen -- hands down! Granted, I've only seen 5 shows, but this was an exceptional set of music....the jamming was endless and relentless. The mosh pit was a bit more crowded this set than in the first, and I boogied from the side levels, but the power wasn't affected one bit (BTW, there ain't a bad seat in this house!) by not being up front. I wish i knew more of the song titles(...but we all will when the tapes are borne...:^), but needless to say, every tune was quite intense.... Basically, Phish blew the roof off this place, and from the "sound" of things (see John Friedman's post), the band REALLY grooved on the Phox as a kind venue. The sound system and acoustics of the Fox were done up by some professional sound engineer (Dan Healy was rumored to be doing it, but they ended up getting a local guy in case problems arose...IMHO, they don't have too much to worry about...:^) :^) All I know is, I'll never be caught sleepin' while these guys are playin'. >-<=> >-<=> >-<=> ...gone phishin' forever...
