Weekapaug Groove

n00b100 Dark, nasty, almost *vicious*. Lotsa folks prefer this to the Mike's from this show, and I can totally see it.

n00b100 You don't really get "psychedelic" much in 3.0 anymore, but I think that's the term that best describes this puppy, thanks mainly to Mike finding the right guitar effect and the right off-kilter riffs to play while Trey was off in Marimba Lumina land. A compulsively, almost hilariously listenable jam.

DriedupGoliath This is a really fun jam. I think it should be highlighted on the chart. The opening, with Fish on guitar, is not going to win any musical accolades, but it's absolutely *hilarious.* The jam with both Fish and Trey on drums is super, super fun, and allows Mike and Page (especially Page) to really shine. Then Trey comes back on to rip a blazing solo and bring it all back to Weekapaug. There are dozens of better played Weekapaugs out there, for sure, but this is one of the most fun versions I've ever heard.

n00b100 A very exciting Weekapaug that manages to incorporate a) fun vocal callbacks to songs played earlier in the set, b) a CYHMK tease as strong as the one in the 3/1/97 Weekapaug, and c) a truly crazy segue as, instead of closing the song in the usual Weekapaug manner, Trey starts hammering away on Llama's opening chords and the band makes a tires-screeching left turn back into Llama for a fantastic close to the set. Probably my favorite version of Weekapaug from the modern era that doesn't involve a Haunted House jam or Mike on guitar.

TweezingSpaceRanger A hidden gem with a delicious groove from the IT festival

fhqwhgads I'm not usually one to dote on energy (or "vibe") in Phish shows, but this Weekapaug is what I believe is popularly known as a "rager!" Weekapaug usually bangs during New Year's Runs, in particular, don't you think?

conormac To my ears, there's a "What's the Use" prelude or tease at 5:48

n00b100 A Weekapaug powered with such ferocious energy that you'd think it was made out of the power generator keeping Tony Stark alive. Maybe the finest one they've ever played.

Timpanogos I know it is pretty straightforward, but I really think this version should be in yellow...absolutely unreal

kipmat Not a tease, but a "Jamakinto" Kenny Loggins' "Footloose" in this one. Good stuff.

kipmat Some deliberate dissonance from Trey in this version. From approx. 1:40-3:10, Trey is soloing on an E major scale, a whole step above Page and Mike. Also lots of chromatic runs by Trey, which was typical of his style at the time.
