History

Though the song is often associated with Muddy Waters, Preston Foster penned the original tune under contract at Chess. So many artists have covered this tune – Manfred Mann,Ike and Tina Turner, Paul Butterfield, Canned Heat, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, The Grateful Dead, B.B. King, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Professor Longhair, Conway Twitty, Al Jarreau, Pork Tornado, The Zombies, and of course, Mojo Nixon – that Phish were bound to take their turn at some point.

That point arrived on 2/25/97 in Munich, at the tail end of a three-song guest appearance from classic jazz, blues, and spiritual vocalist Sydney Ellis. In a selection that also included “One Meatball” and “Little Red Rooster,” the Germany-based singer-songwriter lent a passion to those tunes that doesn’t always come easy for Phish.
