Gives you the goosebumps good. So many great elements. Wild riffs and heavy bass. Strong all the way through. Priveleged to have been there to witness this monster : )

A dark, lovely, pulsating jam that would have been just as at home in a second set (quite frankly, it would have improved 8/22/15 III if you swapped out that Cities with this one, and I *love* that Cities). 8/12/15 is one of 3.0's finest full shows, and this first-set jam is a big reason why.

Just in case you forgot one of the major lessons of 3.0 (it's not the length, but what's done with it), here comes this Cities to show you the light. Hear the ridiculous ease with which the band moves from plinko-y jamming to relaxed chord-driven semi-funkiness to The Pool of Bliss and try not to whip out a Roget's to find the proper words to praise this jam. That it came at the end of 40 minutes of laser-focused, exceptional jamming makes it all the sweeter. I don't care if they played Alaska 13 straight times for Set 1 - a jam like this in a Set 2 like 12/31/14 II washes away as much ill will as you could possibly muster.

I get a good chuckle out of the DEG "tease" on the setlist, as in the actual song itself it sounds like they're actually trying to segue into DEG before remembering there's still a verse left, half-heartedly playing it, and *then* going directly into DEG. Still a glorious moment, to be sure, and one of the highlights of Colorado '88 (a must-own for plenty of reasons, though admittedly as much for historical reasons as musical).
