History

Ass Handed made its debut July 15, 2016 at the Gorge Ampitheater, where it was soundchecked and later played during the first set. The song consists of a simple lyric repeated a capella multiple times with differing emphasis on specific words of each line, followed by a very short but rocking jam.

When asked about the song's origins, Jon Fishman had this to say:

"It was the late afternoon of a long day of being more wrong than I normally am, in the context of a lifetime's worth of such days in endless succession up to that point, when it just finally came flying out of me in a moment of profound exasperation. I was astounded at the realization that it took nearly 51 full years of life for the conscious awareness of perhaps the single most obvious pattern in my daily existence since birth, beyond bodily functions, to develop enough for the communication center of my physical body to finally print out the observation in a memo-to-self not easily forgotten."

In addition to its standalone perfection, the song has also found itself in some interesting song positions. On October 22, 2016 it replaced the standard "I Am Hydrogen" for a "Mikes Song" > "Ass Handed" > "Weekapaug Groove" then two days later in Grand Prairie, Texas it was paired with the classic "Fuck Your Face" which made for a great, if a bit dirty combination:
