Absolutely loved the First Tube opener...brought me right back to Dick's Night One. There were a couple of sleepers in the first set, including Wherever You Find it and Case of Ice and Snow, but over all I was pleased to see some songs that I kind of forgot about. Simple Twist Up Dave was probably the highlight for me in the first set, and a close runner-up would be Black Dog. Hartswick really just killed it on vocals and had everyone jazzed up at set break. I like that they kind of highlighted Jennifer's role on night two since she didn't really get much spot light night one, it mostly went to Natalie Cressman.
Second set started off hot with a number I'm not too familiar with, but it raged all the same. Gotta Jibboo was the next standout to me. I have always liked the TAB versions and this one did not let me down. One thing I noticed about the TAB style of jamming is that Trey seems to lead the band into jam-territory, and then he hooks up with one other member of the band and they lay down some funky rhythms and jam together. For Jibboo it was Trey and Ray (The Milkman!) going at it, which was really enjoyable.
Plasma>Liquid Time might be the highlight of night 2 for me. It was a lot of fun and seemed to be the deepest space territory that the band ventured into. Let Me Lie is a favorite of mine, but I'm not sure how I like the new TAB arrangement. I kind of liked it more when Trey just played it solo-acoustic. Regardless, the Spin throwback was tight and the Clint Eastwood closer was funky. Trey was throwing down some weird effects and overall it was a very sweet jam. Again, Hartswick nailed the vocals.
The encore satisfied my need for a little more Trey acoustic with a fun Heavy Things that included a sprinkling of confetti from the balcony that added a nice effect. Show of Life is a nice breather before Devil Went Down to Georgia tore the place up one last time. You could tell Trey was really having a good time and that added to the vibes of the weekend in general. I think night one might have been better by just a hair, but night two was just as fun. Took the BART back into the city following the show and went out for some good ole San Francisco bar-hopping and munching at a local Tacqueria. Good times all around! Can't wait for summer tour!
