There's a story about Trey getting into a fight w/ a security guard in the parking garage near the Metropol before the show. I semi-remember him talking about it during the show - does anyone recall this?
OK... My friends and I showed up for this show w/out tickets after driving 4 hours. Fortunately we didn't need tickets to get in, just had to pay a $10 cover. Unfortunately, none of us were 21 & thus couldn't get in. DOH! Enter Fake IDs. OK, we got in. Ahhh the good old days. There couldn't have been more than 500 people in the audience.
This show was FULL of classic early 90's energy. They came out swinging with Llama in the first set and played a fun, rocking first set complete w/ secret language. They hit it even harder with Buried to open the 2nd, Runaway was great, Maze was quite "danciful"... YEM, Coil and finally I waved my birkenstocks in the air as Trey belted out "whatever you do, take care of your shoes!" Fee encore with Trey singing into a megaphone was also classic 90's and sounded great, as I remember. Closer was a strong classic Hendrix cover of Fire that absolutely WAILED! Great show, gotta make it's way to livephish.com someday.

Last show in November, ninth show of Fall Tour. After a day off the boys traveled to Pittsburgh to share the secret language with the mid-west at the only gig played at the Metropol. Not a bad sound and very little monitor feedback which seems to have been plaguing them recently.

I expected a Landlady or Buried Alive but instead we have a ripping Llama to open the show in style. Nicely done. Another Foam? Oh well, I like this song and this is an average one. Right into a standard Bouncing and Poor Heart. Nothing too crazy or great about these. Stash has a few problems from Trey's part in the middle but, otherwise not too bad. Sparkle is also pretty standard. Ice, again, has some problems around the second verse. Just a bit off. Hey, it's IDK! Haven't heard this in a while and Fish is introduced by Trey as "Madonna's long lost younger sister" before his washboard solo. Anyone remember the washboard with the boobs? The first notes of Reba were cut off. Tape flip maybe? Anyway, not bad over all, and this is the first one listed without whistling at the end since it's introduction in 1989! So without the whistling Trey goes right into the language explanation. Then into the Antelope closer which is ok, except I feel that Trey really missed an opportunity to climax with the band about two and a half minutes in. The jam itself is great and makes you forget about the intro part. Great closer, pretty good set.

Well, I got the Buried Alive I was looking for. Good opener, right into a solid Jim. Guelah is ok, maybe a little loose, and brings about a funny story from Trey about getting into a fight right before the Fly part. Maze, which is usually tight, has some problems in the middle transition from Page to Trey tonight. Glide is good, as is the second set bluegrass call of the night, Uncle Pen. YEM is pretty good, maybe a bit loose here and there. The vocal jam after is great as always and culminates with the churchy type of harmonizing at the end. Coil is good and again leads right into Fish's section. This time with a HYHU intro. Fish talks about his vacuum getting negative press and says it only makes his solos better. Terrapin sounds a little weak from Mike, like he forgot it since it's been a while. Cavern is a standard closer here and a good one at that.

Double encores tonight with a decent Fee complete with megaphone verses. A little sloppy at the begining from Trey. Then a ripping, kind of sloppy, Fire to close the same way we started. Rocking!

Average show for this time period. Not a bad way to get the vibes going in Pittsburgh.
