Mimi Fishman Foundation Holiday Auction

The Mimi Fishman Foundation just launched their 2009 Holiday Charity Auction. The auction, which closes for bidding on December 7, includes a whole lot of Phish (mainly signed posters from the 2nd half of the 2009 summer tour - including a few Pollocks), as well as several New Years Eve packages with YMSB and UM and much more! The auction continues the Foundation's strong support for the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments. In addition, the auction also features a "Rock the Earth" section with many rare signed items (Bob Weir, Dave Matthews, etc).

We're often surprised how many fans have never heard Sharin' in the Groove, the double-disc "tribute" album featuring Dave Matthews, Arlo Guthrie, Tom Tom Club, Jimmy Buffet, John Scofield, the Wailers, and many more - all playing Phish songs, all for charity, with all our proceeds benefitting music education for children. So, here's a promo video with clips of each track, some background info, and some encouragement for you to go purchase the full tracks. It really does make a difference!

2009's Just a Bundle of Songs

As reported earlier via Twitter, Phish's shows this year have already included more distinct songs (208) than any year other than 1998 (240), which had two albums covered (Loaded and Dark Side of the Moon) plus the "Jukebox Summer Tour".

Phish's Costume is EXILE; NYE is in Miami

For tonight's second set, the band will perform the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main St. Playbills are already being distributed on site. The Phish.net song database is being populated with the new songs (Loving Cup and Sweet Virginia have been played previously), and complete song histories will be posted within the next week or so. The same Playbill also confirms that New Year's Eve will be in Miami, FL, as suspected by many since early June. The Exile set will reportedly feature Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings (horns).

The first two sets from Festival 8 are in the books (setlist here and available for download through LivePhish). Highlights included a first set "Stash" and strong versions of "DWD," "Piper," and "Hood" (complete with Open Burble) from the second set. Trey also announced that "David Bowie" provided a hint about Halloween's musical costume -- which, no doubt, means we can eliminate Hunky Dory as a possibility.

IndioReport: Camping Complaints

We issued a call yesterday for anyone on site to file reports for stories about Indio - and fans on-site responded with a flood of complaints about the campgrounds. No doubt, things are improved in many ways over some previous festivals, especially the mess that was Coventry. However.... Folks in the Larks Tongues in Aspic camping section, for example, are livid. Although they were the first to be searched and directed to park, they still had no showers, sinks, or food/beverage vending after nearly 20 hours. Said one reporter, "The situation is getting testy with some of us who felt trapped in here today." That's particularly a problem because, as several have reported, that campsite is "a disproportionately far distance form the rest of the fest" - so the folks who moved in first have to walk the farthest and don't have any of the promised amenities. Hopefully someone official will get wind of this here - if they havent already heard enough of it on-site... Update: Despite several other complaints, most feedback has been overwhelmingly positive: no traffic once near the site, great art installations, kind (if excessively thorough) entrance staff, great vibes all around.

Day parking will not be permitted until 4pm on Friday. ... Searches at the gate are heavy! Dogs, opening suitcases, searching under car hoods. Warnings against drug possesion are underscored, of course, but so are reminders about traffic: Unless the searches become less surgical, the backup tomorrow could be loooong. ... The sky is gorgeous. ... Are you on site? Want to report something more substantive, more specific, or in greater detail? We invite anyone in attendance to file a report, on damned near anything. We'll be compiling up-to-date stories on various aspects of the festival - art installations, campground layout and activities, festival grounds, traffic, etc. - and crediting those who've filed reports. (If you'd rather be anonymous, just say so.) For now, reports can be filed to ellis@phish.net.
