Subject: Ghost Story #9--8/16/97 Set 1--The Ghost of Dr. Falken

Hey There

Due to an overeagerness on my part this Ghost Story materialized just as my
gelatinous fervor "peaked" during day one of the Went. As a result I
vaporized, much like Loring Air Force Base itself would have been in the
movie Wargames, if Joshua had not been able to learn the futility of
playing Global Thermonuclear War. What I'm saying is....I didn't really "hear"
this Ghost until I got the tapes (thanks Ryan).

The prologue to this Ghost opens (0:00) in typical fashion, a short
countdown, after some amusing banter about the port-o-let piazza, and
fishman being naked in the bathtub.  As is typical to each and every ghost
I've listened to.....(all but 3 of them)....there are no lyrical flubs in
the prologue, though Trey is Very reserved in this version....barely
audible for most of it. The exception to this being his girlishly high pitched
shrieks of GHOST!!! that bring the prologue to its typical close around the
(3:00) minute mark. The verse break is shorter than usual, dominated by
some funky page 70's sitcom chase music. The Ghost Story itself....a tale of
Global Thermonuclear destruction wrought by a meddlesome teenage
hacker...gets of to a funk scratch start with Page leading the way on the
boards. Trey is giddily scratching along with an upbeat tempo from Mr.
Fishman. Mike is dropping BOMBS of the global thermonuclear variety that
would make any bomber pilot hanging around the ol' base proud. In the midst
of these megaton blasts, trey boogies down on an (4:00)unrecognized but
familiar Disco Bus favorite dancing right into the around the back door
ring my bell theme that I hear in every Ghost Story by about (5:00). This theme
and its funkadelia variations continues for a minute or so and then
gradually begins to disintegrate. That beloved dissonant time distortion
effect kicks in and the jam begins to devolve. This nuclear powered dna
mutation reaches a peak at about the (8:30) mark, time is bending, I'm not
sure if I'm in the midst of the Diseezer In Seattle, The Wolfman's Brother
from the Gorge or my favorite Bowie from the Mann Center
6/24/95...unfortunately the answer to that quandary was none of the above.
This time, the crack does not open, the vortex does not appear, There is no
hose. By the (11:00) minute mark Trey is wiling a screaming warning siren
over the top of the final nuclear counterstrike bombardment from Mike G. At
this point the Ghost Story appears to be heading for a Sweet Emotion tease
but it just does not get there. It gradually becomes more and more
Carini-like to me. some Volcanic magma bass gurgle under some tweezeresque
scratchiness by (13:00) slowly devolves into mellower scratchy Ghost of
Carini...similar to the A-Dam Ghost....before dying out at about (15:30) as
Ginseng Sullivan starts hauling his sack back to his muddy water
Mississippi Delta home.  Much like the lesson learned by Joshua in Wargames,
The only Solution is not to play....that is to say, this Ghost tried REALLY hard to
be a monster....but in the end it was just a simulation of the real
thing.....
