Steven Wright is a self-professed Phish fan. He even extolled the virtues of the band on Late Night with Conan O’Brien after Billy Breathes was released in 1996. His lone guest appearance ranks among the oddest moments in Phishtory. Fans recognized him when he appeared on stage during “Scent of a Mule” on 12/30/96 but surely couldn’t have guessed that he would add a distinctive bell ring before leaving as conspicuously as he arrived.
