For most of the band's history, fans have organized themselves in remarkable ways. These include:

The Phellowship - organized in early 1996 by Paige E. Clem as a group of Phish-heads w
ho choose to remain entirely drug and alcohol free and who provide support, information, and 'phellowship' to those fans at shows, with a presence at shows since the Fall 1996 tour, and permanent permissision for a a table inside venues beginning in Summer 1997. - The Mockingbird Foundation - Organized in mid-1996 and incorporated in 1997 to fundraise for music education for children, through publication of The Phish Companion, release of Sharin' in the Groove, maintainence of the Phish.net website, and other related projects
- The Clifford Care Bears - a summer 1996 effort to encourage good behavior at and following the Clifford Ball
- The Karma Crew - an effort spearheaded by Jay Archibald in Spring 1997, to encourage fans to think about their individual contributions to the atmosphere and impact of the Phish fan community - such as by not buying nitrous oxide
- Inside Out - an effort planned for the Fall 1997 tour, to distribute flyers against and promote discussion about hard drug use.
