In addition to on-stage guests that have joined Phish for a song or a set and Phish appearing as guests with other acts, a number of shows featured Phish opening for another band(s), or other band(s) opening for Phish.

  • Lamb's Bread
  • The Jolly Llamas opened 10-90 and 2-21-91 in Charlottesville
  • ARU (The Aquarium Rescue Unit) opened on 5-4-91, 3-26-92, 5-2-92, and a few other southeast shows that spring. Phish opened for ARU one show, either late 91 or early 92. (possibly 4/15 Variety?)
  • Shockra had early dates with Phish, each openings some of the gigs. Also, Phish sat in for three songs 2/1/92 and for the 9/4/92 second set; Mike and Jon 1/27/93, Jon 2.6.93 and once later in '93, and Mike 2/17/94. (Shockra disbanded 3/6/94 but reformed, with two original members, in the fall of 1997.)
  • Arrowhead 7-20-91, Day 1: Authority, Spin Doctors, Phish; day two (7-21-91): TR3, Radiators, Phish
  • Widespread Panic, e.g. 4/17/92 at the Warfield
  • The Beastie Boys closed the 5/10/92 free show at UMass
  • HORDE Festivals began 7-9-92
  • Spin Doctors
  • Leftover Salmon
  • LSD (Laguna Seca Daze) '93. First day: Phish, Blues Traveler, Allman Brothers. Second day: Phish, Blues Traveler, 10,000 Maniacs, et al.
  • Dave Matthews Band: 4-20-94, 12-2-94, and 12-3-94
  • Blues Traveler: 12-15-89
  • opened for the Violent Femmes and Lou Reed during festival gigs in Europe during the Summer of 1992.
  • Shows with Santana (foreshadowed by 9/13/90 Landlady, which had been dedicated "to the spirit of Carlos") in the summers of 1992 (in the US) and 1996 (in Europe). During 1992, Trey and John joined Santana and members of Santana and crew on a few dates, and Carlos joined Phish on 7-25-92.
  • Dave Matthews Band, three times: Lexington Horse Center, Oak Mountain Amphitheatre, and __
  • European festivals again in 1996
  • J. Willis Pratt and his trio were the surprised opener on 12-13-97 in Albany.
  • Moses Guest were scheduled to play a pre-show sidestage at 7-25-98 but that was canned days before.
  • Underwater reportedly played a pre-show sidestage at 8-7-98. Tom Booth
